@ginger_dog
@ginger_dog Ай бұрын
Ha ha! You're funny. So actually, some projects may warrant being shot in EOS Standard. If it's something quick and dirty that isn't going to get a lot of view because it has a super limited scope in what it is being used for (i.e. a training video for a super small volunteer team) than save the time in post and film EOS Standard. I do personally recommend getting to the place where you are mostly shooting C-Log and color grading because that's where all of the control is over the color. Especially in adverse lighting scenarios, you'll have a better shot at recovering stuff. But even in the best of lighting scenarios, you'll be able to fine tune color to be the exact look you are going for. At the end of the day, however, if EOS Standard gives you the end look you need, shoot in it. There's no need to spend time color grading it back to that look.

Thank you for the review. It sounds like a good light from the reviews I’ve watched. But if you don’t need RGB, I’d probably point people towards the 200X S instead. It’s brighter, cheaper, and more color accurate. But even then, a 200X S hasn’t been bright enough for me in some situations. @ginger_dog
@ginger_dog 2 ай бұрын
It depends on use case. The Canon C300 Mkii tied for most used camera for Heartland Film Festival documentaries this year and it is a 9 year old camera. Yes, a lot of KZbinrs and high end production houses upgrade regularly, but a surprising number of professionals invest in gear and use it for a decade or more. Image quality isn't going to advance to a level that today's cameras look obsolete any time soon. At a certain point streaming bandwidth capabilities and viewing device resolutions cap out any recognizable improvements to be made in image quality and all of the cameras here offer stunning image quality that I believe will be state of the art for 10-20 years. Integrations with accessories, AI technologies, usability functions and design will all be the next major focus of developing cameras now that image quality is reaching a ceiling. So yes, 10-20 years is a stretch for some users, but not ridiculous for everyone in the industry.

I got lots of EF-S lenses for the C100 mk2 (most of the STM lenses and a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and a Sigma 50-100mm f1.8...I know I overspent..oh well...) and these lenses are not getting used very much lately (sometimes I use the sigma mc-11 adapter to use the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 with the Sony FX30 and the video autofocus is ok...but not as good as when using Sony native lenses-but never mind that)...so It's a shame that I'm not using those STM lenses and the sigma lenses more...I wonder if I got a gently used C70 I guess I could still use my EF-S lenses and the Sigma (with a Canon adapter) but would they perform great for video autofocus etc? I don't want to go thru the painful exercise of purchasing new lenses...I just see that the C70 might be a good video camera for several years to come- or am I totally lost here? The C80 and C400 are full frame and I don't need it. I'm a videographer not a filmmaker. Have you used the C70 with EF-S lenses or with the Sigma 18-35 and the Sigma 50-100 and got great results in video? thanks so much

Great question. I will say that it seems that native company lenses (i.e. Canon lenses on Canon cameras, Sony lenses on Sony camera) always seem to slightly outperform autofocus responsiveness and accuracy compared to compatible 3rd party lenses. I love Sigma and shoot with them (specifically that 18-35 f1/8) 90% of the time. Autofocus works well and as much love as Canon has put towards the C70 including its autofocus, you should have no trouble. It will certainly do better than your C100 Mkii.

For the Sunday School, Bible Study, and amateur interviews I shoot, the codecs aren’t an issue. I’m fine with 8 bit although I have considered the C300 MKII. It presents other issues for me like the Cfast 2.0 cards. You need two of them for all your shoots. The C200 allows you to shoot on SD cards even in 4K, MP4, 8 bit. Most of my work is shot in 1080p, MP4 with little to no color grade. The C200 is half the price of a C70 right now. If I need a little extra, I have an R6 MKII & 90D. Not a bit. Most clients don't know a thing about cameras and couldn't confidently identify a Mkii from a Mkiii if a million dollars was on the line. In fact, I can't tell you how many people look at my C100 Mkii when it's rigged out and say "Wow! That's a really nice camera!" The thing is over a decade old and can't even shoot 4K. @@ginger_dog Be honest, is there any actual image quality difference between III and II that's going to make the audience say "What an awful camera"?
@ginger_dog
@ginger_dog 2 ай бұрын
@@CringePanda Here's what I would say: there is actual image quality difference between the Mkii and Mkiii but the audience is not going to notice or think about it. Audiences care more about story, whether a shot is in focus or not, colors, or wildly over/under exposed images. The Mkii is an extremely popular state of the art camera that will remain relevant for a long period of time. The image quality will be improved in the Mkiii via the dual gain ISO which gives you almost an extra stop of dynamic range resulting in more detail in the shadows and highlights. The color science is also improved so you will spend a little less time in post fiddling with it to get it just right. The Mkiii shoots RAW in camera and the Mkii does not but I have never shot RAW and don't see myself doing so for a very long time. The XLR ports where moved from the top handle to the camera body on the Mkiii but I've again never every had issues with XLR being on a top handle. The autofocus is improved but not by a whole lot. So yes, there are differences, but they are minute and nobody is going to look at the footage out of the Mkii and say, "That's garbage" unless you are horrible at exposure, white balance, or focus. I trust you know how to nail those. You can find really nice Mkiiis on eBay for $4,500-$5,500 here: ebay.us/bHoqvq or the Mkiis for about $2,000 here: ebay.us/BIXJ5h Honestly, the Mkiii is not twice as good of a camera as the Mkii but then again, an extra $3K might be worth the improvement in color and dynamic range if you will use it for the next 10+ years. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm glad to help.

Chiming in late here, but can you recommend a good tripod and video head for use with the C100 Mark II? (for both indoor and outdoor use). Thx!

No worries. This is the one I am eyeing right now: amzn.to/3Ttt7gW I also really like Potato Jet's collab with SmallRig that is being released soon, but it's twice as much.

Why do this? Why "trash talk" a GIFT to the filming community by "reviewing" a camera that is totally wrong for your needs? Who needs this "information"? Are the weaknesses of the Osmo Pocket 3 next? Sure, your channel, your opinions. You are free to voice them, but what is the end game here? I used to have a Pocket 6K, but I don't have a BMD camera currently. You're NOT hurting my feelings. I'm just pretty sure after having paid $299 for Resolve Studio around version v12 and gotten free upgrades since, plus seeing BMD release FF cinema cameras for sub 3K that they don't need this type of nonsense flak or being mentioned in the same sentence as "ugly truth". Name another company that does more for the budget-oriented community in the video or film business. I'll be right here waiting.

I only did it because as soon as this camera was dropped, a bunch of people hyped it up and were pre-ordering it based off of seeing a few of its truly incredible specs. I felt that, like so many Blackmagic cameras, this camera was crazy amazing in some specs and really puzzling and lacking in others. Some of the awesome specs come at a cost that many people don't think about initially, so I wanted to pump the brakes on some of the hype specifically to the audience that follows my channel. I tried to be clear that I was speaking to a specific use case audience and that this would actually be a great camera for some filmmakers. Blackmagic offers some crazy specs at ridiculously low prices but they also really whiff it on important specs to many filmmakers. It's why they have a strong cult following but also only own a small portion of the camera market compared to the likes of Canon and Sony. Great camera for some filmmakers, but not most. Certainly not the audience that follows my channel.
