With you changing the wheel base of the vehicle doesn't that require a sva test when finished? Just a thought
@All4OverlandКүн бұрын
Hi..yes it probably does as with any chassis modification it should have an SVA test like all the bob tailed land rovers that are about should have SVA tests as they have had chassis modifications...i am going to have a word with the people at K2 who have done a few tray back discos with chassis extensions i think they will know all the ins and outs. But i have a few months before i have to worry about that.

Don't worry, I talk to myself in the garage all the time and I haven't even got any cameras on me! I quite often ask how somethings going to work out loud and then sort of answer myself, it does help you figure stuff out sometimes

Paul, why you not using a Defender chassis, the deeper section means it is stronger, or atleast fit a 110 rear section to do away with the dip and give you a rear fuel tank mount
@All4Overland7 күн бұрын
Hi Phil...we did look at using a 110 chassis but having to relocate the body mounts and everything else is very difficult without a two post lift...and the fuel tank location is not really an issue on a tray back and has the whole purpose of this build is to make the truck lighter we should not need the extra strength of a 110 chassis.

When you start rebuilding the new chassis the first job to do is the seat belt anchor mounts, if you forget them its a nightmare doing them with the body on. Ask me how I know.
@All4Overland15 күн бұрын
Hi..i can only imagine not putting in the seat belt mounts would be a nightmare but fortunately i am using the factory ones that are still in the chassis so i wont have to touch them.
@dickyo251315 күн бұрын
Its the factory ones I mean. The tie rods and the rubber bushes chassis side. You'll take them out when you get it galvanised. Try not to break them they are not cheep to replace. I built a longranger with full body off resto. Bloody forgot the SB mounts, didnt realise until way too late. i had to undo all the body mounts and lift the body 6'' just to squeeze them in. I even forgot the gaskets and plates body side. I thought I'd try save you the same fate. Good luck with the rebuild. Your truck inspired me to go through with my build. It became a life saving project. Literally but that's a whole other story.

Should you not have jacked the truck up to ensure you weren't tightening the nuts up with the wheels not vertical? You were assuming that the wheels were vertical when you tightened them.
@All4OverlandАй бұрын
Hi...you would not be able to tighten the wheel nuts tight enough if it was jacked up as the wheel would just rotate so you would always tighten them up on the ground as they would pull itself square as you tighten it in a crosshatch pattern.

My disco 300tdi, same running gear as your defender, shook a front wheel loose and snapped a stud. Landrover manual says to torque the nuts up every 400 miles. That’s every 5 days in my case. There is always one that is loose.
