One problem I had with an ACDelco is the gasket slipped off and I didn't know it I lost 2 and 1/2 quarts before I figured out what happened. It's a tight hole that you have to run the filter down in front of the engine. Accidentally the gasket flipped off and I didn't realize it.

I came by to say my faceplated tko does the same. It rattles in neutral unless the clutch is depressed and in 5th it rattles like crazy. Does it worse when the engine isnt running 100% do to the tune being off a bit. Im pretty sure the reason it does it is the need for removing the 3/4 hub slider keys/springs (the square pieces and wire that holds them in). The faceplate allows them to fall out, so you have to remove them. I found upon assembly it was very very loose after removal of the keys.

I have a new TKO600 from Modern Driveline the Tremec Specialists. I had them add carbon fiber synchronizers in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The first thing I noticed was the rattle while idling. I, like many others thought my (brand new) throw out bearing or pilot bearing was bad, but after researching this, it turns out it may be the cluster shaft rattling away when in neutral. They told me it might be the springs in the clutch. The second issue that I have is the same as yours, it sounds almost like a buzzing rattle emanating up through my shifter. It's annoyingly loud and does this in all gears. It comes in around 2,000 RPM and used to quit by 3,000. Now it just doesn't stop under throttle. I contacted Modern Driveline several times and even sent video, but they tell me it's got to be my exhaust touching something or a loose bolt somewhere. I guess I'm too stupid to realize that the sound coming straight up through my shifter is a loose nut on my alternator. I absolutely hate this transmission and wonder when it's going to give up the ghost. I feel like I wasted $3,250 on this one but I sure won't buy another.
@nekkidtuber

Hate to hear that. Very frustrating. Mine still only has the fifth gear under load rattle. Did you dial in your bellhousing for minimal runout? If you can get to top of the shifter at all you might try popping the small round part off and checking the shifter ball cup that the knob sits in. If it happens to be bad, you can get one from a Ford dealer, can't remember the part number but it's the same as one of the Mustangs. Next thing is to try the thick Mopar NV3500 manual transmission fluid. That's what they went to in the Viper for the T56 neutral rattle. I took mine out and took it to the place I got from but they couldn't replicate it with the transmission out so they didn't do anything but one of the guys mentioned possibility of out of spec synchronizers. I have a 97 S10 with NV3500 running Synchromesh fluid and it has also developed some noise in fifth gear but it's got 130k on it with original clutch/throwout/etc and almost 70k of that was supercharged.

Hey nekkituber, thanks for the reply. I did set up everything according to spec and my driveshaft angle is virtually 0° with a fixed rear. (I'm running an independent suspension rear that does not move with the suspension.) I also am running solid motor mounts and a bellhousing plate which MDL said they thought was suspect transferring vibration. I just don't buy it since I've read about a lot of people having the exact same issue that I'm having. I am using Dexron III ATF??? as per the manufacturer's recommendation and have considered trying a manual gear lube to see if that makes a difference. I have about 6,000 miles on the transmission now but I am wondering whether the carbon synchronizer installation wasn't exactly perfect. Heck, who knows. I'm running a fuel injected stroked 427 SBC in a 1971 Jaguar XKE. I'd give anything to trade a transmission rattle for a nice transmission whine.

@@finallyitsed2191 The place I got mine from (Keisler, now defunct and has become SilverSport which is a great company now) said that Dex III was OK for the 500 mile light duty break in but then to use GM Synchromesh going forward. Pennzoil has a GM equivalent that is readily available at most parts stores a good bit cheaper. As rough as yours sounds I might go straight to the Mopar NV3500 fluid. Google "shiftsst choose correct fluid" and they still have the same recommendation for the TKO but say to use Dex III in the T56. If you google "viper t56 bulletin" the first link that comes up should be a forum post on theturboforums where someone copied the original Viper TSB . BTW, I am running a fuel injected 400 SBC. The builder wanted to do a 427 but I did not want to max out the SHP block right off the bat. Started with a cheap Powerjection III unit, computer died, installed a FAST Sportsman XFI to drive the old PJ unit, and I've had all the stuff to convert it to multiport for a couple years now but have gotten LAZY.
@nekkidtuber
@nekkidtuber 5 жыл бұрын
@@finallyitsed2191 BTW, what was your total run out when you dialed in the bell housing? Also if you're running a motor protector plate did you use that funky looking extended pilot bearing that sticks out of the crank more so the input shaft from the trans fully engages? Also look up "stang shifter gaskets". He makes an isolater gasket that is supposed to cut down greatly on trans noise transmitted through the shifter. I have one but those fools loc-tited in the shifter bolts using allen heads and I was afraid I was going to strip them trying to get them out with the trans in the car so never got around to trying it out.

@@finallyitsed2191 NV3500 viscosity ~ 75 Synchromesh viscosity ~ 30 Dex III viscosity ~ 10 at 200 degrees! The NV3500 fluid stopped my rattle but only until the transmission fully warmed up, then it would come back. I can't say about ATF because I only ran it for 500 miles and the rattle didn't start until maybe 8000 miles or so.

It is a custom single pattern grind based on the Comp Cams 276HR. The builder set it up based on what I wanted. The details listed are pretty much what I have available. The only small mistake is that they knew I was installing EFI and should have gone with more LSA. I think Comp has some Magnum single pattern cams with similar specs. Cost on the engine was about $8000.

You're welcome, good luck. Shouldn't be hard to do even better. I linked a full dyno sheet in the description also. Also wanted to stay with 5.7" rods as it's just built for low end torque and street only.

i have a similar issue with the t-56 in my 96 chevy, no hope of a smooth transition from a stop, insane rattle in the shifter 1-3, i can usually fuck with the clutch enough once i get going to get a smooth lock for 4th and then i just power-shift up and down unless i have to come to a complete stop...clutch is randomly either allmost gone or super hard at times as well, strangest part about the whole issue is that nothing is consistant, there are brief periods where the drivetrain is mint and everything is hooked up perfect, then there are other times that i cant get a smooth engagement in any gear no matter what i do and i end up having to send it @~4k all the way down @ 1st or second gear to make things line up...it almost feels like the pressure plate is OVER-engaging the clutch (is that possible?) because in most cases the shifter doesnt start to freak out until i let that last .5 pounds of pressure off the clutch...it is a spec 3+ clutch that doesnt even have 5k miles on it so i am very surprised im having issues already...

o ya...thats what got my attention in the first place...my shifter rattle is most notable around the 1900-2200 rpm as well...you figure your gremblin out? engine or tranny mounts? uni-joints on the drive-shaft? allignment off somewhere in the drivetrain or between the motor and tranny? thats what i want it to be anyway...replacing that clutch is a shit-load of money and time wasted, i would really appriciate any insight you may have, its been hell trying to get it figured out on my own, i dont know anyone that drives a t56 to TS with locally

Part 3. If you have a big cam with low LSA there can be enough exhaust dilution that the 02 reads falsely and the fuel runs the wrong way. If it does that you can go fixed pulsewidth idle so it doesn't keep adjusting (mine does fine with auto adjust). The base cals are too rich on the low end and usually idle target can't lean out enough. Look at the pic of my fuel wizard and you can see how low my fueling is at 1000 RPM to fix that, and my idle cell learned value is still -20.

Part 2. Remember any time you adjust the two plate screws you must do each equally so they stay synched, and then turn the unit off and back on (not started) so you can do a TPS recalibration.
@nekkidtuber
@nekkidtuber 11 жыл бұрын
Thanks. There's a good forum on the Professional Products webpage where it's easier to get help than if I tried to do it here. How I set idle is put my hot idle target 50 RPM below where I actually want it, then adjust the two plate screws. Then the IAC will close all the way and sit there to try to pull it down that last 50 RPM instead of fluttering. So I set my target to 800 RPM and watch the screen while adjust the screws down to 850 and verify the IAC is 10 (closed).

You bet. Glad it helped some. Good idea on the CT enable. I basically did the same thing by just setting the values to 100% for 140 and above on after start and 110 and above on C-Temp enrichment. That also helped with driving off cold since C-Temp affects the entire fuel map not just idle. I was getting rich misfires when trying to drive cold if leaving it where it would warm up at a rich idle AFR.

Just a note of thanks. Was having cold start issues on my 375 HP 302 Ford. After looking at your files, realized I was way to lean and too narrow a pulse width. Using your files as a baseline created much, much better results and now I am fine-tuning from this new baseline. One area I improved was to change the cold engine fuel enrichment "enabled if CT less than" value to 150 instead of 240 - prevents it from running too rich on a warm re-start (I have no enrichment for temps under 150)
