I've seen a lot of guys 3D print props (especially toroidal) and it’s interesting but I think they all suffer from two flaws of FDM printing: 1. Layer adhesion and 2. Discrete layer lines The layer adhesion is solvable if you change to a stronger material like PETG but the real problem is the layer lines. We want a smooth continuous surface cutting through the air but the layer lines get in the way. Ideally you’d put some filler on and sand it back to get a nice surface but who can be bothered doing that four times? We just want to get a finished product with minimal work. Thus my idea: why not print one of each rotationally mirrored props, fill them in, sand them back to a smooth surface and then make silicone molds? I suppose you’d have to experiment with different epoxy solutions but I think it might work.

A mono-loop has a balanced CG, but it doesn't seem to balance lift forces, which will create a lot of misbalance and stress on the bearing. Could that be the issue behind them exploding?

hey a can you teach me how to use fusion 360 im a new comer for using this softwear i want to build a 03 air unit bed and gps holder for my 10inch drone frame or show how to insert and modify from thingie verse if you can it would greatly be appreciated

From what I've heard soldering these make a much lower resistance connection that spot welds. It can be very safely done with the right technique. Use a very large soldering tip, high temp and good flux. Just keep the heat on the cell as briefly as possible, 2 or 3 seconds.

Thank you for your great work. To reduce the drag and weight, you should reduce the thickness of the blades as much as possible. This is where you will save energy and improve efficiency, from what I can see.

I wonder how much of a role the material used in manufacturing the toroidal propellers play as a factor of their performance. So far it seems that each time someone (outside of MIT) tested these propellers they were less efficient and not really more silent than the regular ones. So far it seems that even if guys at MIT were right, the toroidal propellers are too difficult to manufacture properly for them to be worth it.

Maybe a repeat comment but can you give it a try: instead of a filled counterweight make a working wing which will generate lift thicker than normal prop so it will act as counterweight as well. 1) it will solve one sided lift generation and bearing issue 2) since frequency generated by different shapes might reduce high pitched noise.

imagine an egg shaped propeller that is a solar panel and the egg is a tube with a barbed drive cable within that pulls weights in and lets them fly out to the narrow end of the egg. this could enhance lift and guidance in a low gravity thin atmosphere environment

LiIon batteries can be used up to a cell voltage of 2.5V (2.7V recommended) just before landing. The increased weight of the quadcopter may be a disadvantage.

You are losing so much flight time and for what? Lipos can go much lower and it doesnt save your batteries at all! Lipos go by charge cycles NOT how low you go…… the molicells I run to 2.5 and its fine! Its a very dense batt you cant hurt em if u stay above 2.5….. geez

> Fusin360 Free for noncommercial use. Yeah... no thanks. "Drive up adoption with it's free until gaining a critical mass, then start changing the rules" is the oldest trick in the book; I'm not ever taking the bate. I'll stick with FOSS/FreeCAD. Yeah, it's a buggy crashing mess, but at least it's never going to be actively malicious at a later date. Bugs will get fixed, can't fix greed.
