I have a question and it's really important and I need help. My pastor says his job is to make disciples. Personally I believe every single church should be teaching evangelism and how to win the Lost. Every church and every pastor. I've shared this belief with my pastor and he says his job is to make us strong believers AKA strong christians. I've asked him if he could spend some time teaching us a little bit about how to reach the lost or some ways to approach the Lost.... because I have a deep deep desire to win the Lost. His response was and I quote that's not really his job. His job is to make disciples and that I'm an evangelist who is asking a pastor how to evangelize. He constantly talks about how his job is to make disciples according to Matthew 28 and every single time he fortifies his position, I find myself so very very grieved. Almost angry! Is there something wrong with me? In my mind, when you make disciples, wouldn't part of that goal would be to teach people how to reach the Lost? He says the church has lost its way because most churches gauge success by how many butts are in the chairs or how big the church has grown. Although he does have a point, in that some Churches have the wrong motivations in growing their Church but if his heart is right and the motivation pure, shouldn't the church show fruitfulness by growth? Can someone please help me with this because I'm really really struggling with staying at this church which is the only church in my area where he does preach the word of God and has a lot of knowledge as well as he really really does care for the people. Our church has an consistent average of 25 to 30 people each week but for the last year and a half there is zero growth and quite honestly it feels like a dead Church. But I feel like I'm being critical or judgemental or like there's something wrong with my heart. And because I am only a year-and-a-half old as basically a newborn babe in the Lord, I feel like maybe I'm the one who is missing something. Maybe I have much more to learn and my pastor is doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing. Can anyone please help me with this. Correct me or admonish me. I am humbling myself and really want to know the actual truth. I don't care about having my ears tickled and I just simply want to know if my pastor uses this making disciples mission statement without teaching about Soul winning as an excuse for fear or something like that.

Great conversation. Elizabeth is extremely well spoken. Her analysis of the political machinations in connection with the movement seem to be spot on. The only thing I would push back on is that she seemed to suggest toward the end that non-heterosexual identity is not necessarily incompatible with following Jesus. I would disagree with that. I'm hoping what she meant was that Jesus will accept us where we're at even if we still have desires towards sinful activities.
