Dr. Henners directs the Contextual Ministries program at United Theological Ministries, emphasizing spiritual disciplines, discipleship, accountability, ministerial theology, and the doctrine of God. Madeline also serves as the Director of the Internal Review Board of Human Subject Research for the DMin program. I love your practical suggestions! Someone challenged me a few years ago to spend 5 minutes a day just listening to God. What helps me is to do this at my computer so I can write what He says. Now I have many pages in my typed journal where I can look back and review what the Father has said about who I am to Him and what He wants me doing in the future. Listening changed so much for me!

The fasting in speaking section gave me quite the spiritual stab. All I do is speak, whether that's mental or verbal, so I can't wait to see what God has for me when I let Him overtake this area.

Wow! My “awakening” to hearing God and encountering Him is very similar to yours! I was also a part of the UMC and now GMC. Praising God with you and for you! I am at United every great once in a while and would love to exchange encounter stories!!

Wow, this was awesome! I find the idea of silence the hardest. Whenever I attempt to spend time in silence before the Lord, it’s really hard for my mind not to race… I end up with more stress and overthinking?? Maybe I need to focus on specific scriptures
