we aren't really racing against the faster cars so the handicapping doesn't matter. To be honest, the sooner they pass us, the safer it is, because later in the race it becomes a much larger group trying to push through

yes, all of the Daihatsu's in our class have to run either a K3 or 3SZ engine and both engine and gearbox are not allowed to be modified. The Copen is still running the factory K3-VE and is currently winning the championship after the first 2 rounds!

To add a bit more to that, the class is called Daihatsu Challenge NZ and this car is running a standard K3-VE2 engine and gearbox from a Sirion M101. Car is a Mira L701

Hi, what kind of engine that you daihatsu have? Is it k3-VET? Our cuore doesn't came with turbo engine in Europe, So the only option that have is swap to the k3-VE but not the turbo.

Yes, K3-VET from a YRV turbo. You can swap any K3 engine into the Cuore, VE, VE2 and VET

Daihatsu will forever be one of the ultimate underdogs! The old CB engine has proven its worth for decades now and we're only just starting to tap into the engines made in this century haha.. a little late I admit! But lots more to come on that front. Yes that yellow starlet is very fast... it's running a built 4AGE turbo engine so you'd expect it to be! :D

Seems a bit less stable than the G100 no? I saw more than a couple of oversteer events when I didn't on the Charade's videos

Justin has a very different driving style to me so that shows up. In the spec he raced it here it probably is fair to say it's a little less stable but it won't be by the next race meeting. There's no camber or toe adjustment in the rear of these standard so we're fixing that and making up new adjustable control arms with separate sway bar for the front. both of these combined will transform it. This was his first time driving the car too so still getting his head around it. He actually posted a faster lap time than me... only by a couple of hundredths of a second but still damn impressive straight off the bat!

Looks like it is very fast, wish we had a series like that down here. What boost are you running now? Are you running slicks?

It is a great series and lucky to have so many tracks to race at across the season. Boost was around 1.5bar and tyres are Zestino 07RS... 205/50R15 For the first time I matched my best lap on Hankook Z214 which is just mind blowing to think that a road tyre that performs brilliantly in the wet is capable of performing along side a race slick in the dry! All things on the car otherwise are equal

993cc turbo.. CB80 engine. Nothing crazy done to it just headers and a larger turbo with 1.1bar boost as it was running this day. Running a Link ECU with bigger injectors and pump.. the usual supporting mods for a power increase but internally the engine is totally stock. Gearbox is one of our straight cut gear kits and LSD...

What shifter is that Tim? Looks like some fancy 3D printed prototype if you ask me. Deffo way less wobbly than the one in your Charade :-)

haha yes a lot less floppy! this is a new (patented) shifter concept that has been developed by a few clever kiwis and I have been working with them to develop one for the Daihatsu's ultimately to enhance shifting with our dog box but it works well with synchro/factory box, too. I'll be sharing more on it soon :)
