@@Lucrativesoldier that’s a lot of $$ in distilled water 😆. We don’t have an ice machine in our commercial grade fridge so I fill this thing up at least once a week. I will say; as our main source of ice it’s lasted two years. Maybe that’s its lifetime.

what this gentlemen said about having a drink available for the drivers side plug nearest the firewall?...better make it a double. I finished the first three plugs in about 90 minutes,...just taking my time making sure that I was thorough....but that last plug took HOURS. Working out from the plug, I went with the 14mm spark plug socket, a 3/8" drive universal, a 1 1/2" extension, then various extensions to that I could get my rachet on it. Due to the extreme angle, the best you can hope for is about an 1/8" turn at a time. DO NOT try the spark plug socket with a 3" extension. Though that combination makes it easier to attempt to loosen/tighten the plug by hand, you've find that you can't get the socket/extension combination out of the hole,...then you have to screw it back in and figure out how to separate the extension from the socket. Also, make sure you have a magnet on a stick to retrieve tools and screws. IMO, the engineer who designed this should be sentenced to 30 days in jail and be forced to repeat this process twice an hour, 10 hours per day,...LOL.

Honestly, the best approach to the GE 2.0 Opal is just not to buy one. We had the original Opal from about a decade ago and it finally failed last year after owning it for nearly 10 years. My wife loves her nugget ice, and used some Christmas money to buy a replacement Opal. It didn't go but about 2-3 days before it started making horrible noises that could be heard from all throughout the house. Called up GE, they agreed to take it back and replace it with the "Pro" version at no additional cost. What was shocking/sad about the conversation with GE was that they openly admitted to the noise issue with the ice maker and that the "Pro" was supposedly better made. The "Pro" fared little better. It made it about a week before it started doing the exact same thing. It was intermittent at first, but after a couple of weeks it too would just make this god awful screeching noise nearly nonstop until it was unplugged. We cut our losses and got a refund from GE and went with another brand. Unfortunately the Opal ice maker appears to be a good design that got bought up by a corporate juggernaut and "value engineered" to the point where they can't make one that just works.
