Very helpful…thank you. We have a 12 year old grandson still not toilet trained ….makes life very difficult for him and his mum ….. it’s not that he doesn’t understand but l feel he cannot operate the muscles at will to release the urine…. For instance he will sit on the toilet for 3 or 4 minutes and not pass water but as soon as we started putting on his pants he passes water…. He is non verbal with few communication skills.

Sorry to hear Wendy. Is he verbal? Is he able to understand when corrected? Did you speak with his parents? I suggest (if possible) if you can speak with his parents to know the extent of his disability and ways you can help. One thing for sure, this behavior needs to be stopped right away before someone gets hurt.

I felt this and as a person with autism and the 5th child outta two miscarriages (1999 and 2000) I came 2001 and also born with autism because the doctor told my mom back in 200 her uterus is messed up so her last child would of been born with autism or dead plus I came in 2001 April 1st 2001 Sometimes it’s rough being the autism child of my moms 3 kids because my dad was the only one to have patience with me my mom had my older sister at 16 years old when she was a freshman or a sophomore at Tucson high also my dad got father in high school than my mom did almost finishing high school at cholla but didn’t graduate the 12 grade it’s rough for me because I was the last problem outta my moms kids and my mom had a boy and a girl by brothers also my mom would mistreat me because of my siblings and everytime I would ask my brother for my game system when I was growing up my mom would physically abused me and on top of that I got sexually abused by my brother four times had a gun pointed at my head by him when I was 11 and another time pointed it at me when I was 11 6th grader at Mansfield so it’s tough ma’am I had it hard in my life my dads mom my dad and my dads side of family plus my mom side of family had more patients with me than my mom and siblings do

I can relate to the binge eating. In high school, I had bought a lot of treats and hid them in my room in a shoebox. My doctor had me on a diet. After putting up with that god awful diet, I went to the dollar store and got a bunch of healthy-ish snacks, like granola bars, pretzels, cheese/peanut butter crackers, popcorn, dark chocolate, peanut brittle, and sugar free shortbread cookies, and I put the $6 worth of snack treats in my giant purse, and would go into the girls bathroom at school and pig out.

People, who have an autistic kids, have to live on undisturbed distance from other. Government must to help with it. The problem would be resolved very quickly with autistic kids if government would help to provide housing on undisturbed distance for them. Everybody are going to be happy. Otherwise, you, sitting where the neighbors are very close to each other, deliberately expose them to all sort of horrors. "So what? If I am suffering, let everybody around suffer too." That kind of behaviors irresponsible and selfish. It's you who should be consider about your neighbors at the first place not the other way around.
@MariaBorde

Scott, I can hear your frustration but I don't think sending autistic families far away will help everyone involved. Inclusion is extremely important for all special needs children and adults since without it, they will continue living a life of segregation. Don't we want all children and adults to have a productive life? Now, I am not saying neighbours "should put up with it and get over it!" because I don't agree with it but I think autistic families should receive assistance in providing therapy for their children so behavioural issues (among others things) can be managed.

I respect your opinion but I think it is an unfair assessment. Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition, the fact that you think autistics don't have concern for others and they only think about themselves, it tells me that you don't understand the dynamics of the conditions. I also have a situation concerning a neighbor with a teen who has autism. My heart goes out to the mom. But I also need to think about my kids rights. I am a mom of 2 good kids ( both in their early teens) who are asking/telling me since last year about the noise of our neighbor with autism. They told me that as our neigbor's child as she grew older ( She's now 19) became more and more loud. They tried to understand, tried to be more patient and tolerate the noise but now they can't anymore. My kids room and the room of our neigbor with autism are near each other. Both windows our facing each other. Maybe 2 or 3 meters apart. They can hear her scream, talk loudly, call her mom in the middle of night, at 12mn, early morming at 4am, In the afternoon, and it's really disrupting their sleep, their mental health, their peace of mind. We only have 3 rooms , our house is small while our neighbor have big house ( I assume they have more rooms). Our only request is to move their daughter in a different room that is far from our kids room. To lessen the noise, so that my children can have a good night sleep. It's their school vacation and they wanted to enjoy it, but the can't😌 That's our only request. Our children has been very patient and understanding. I've seen them struggle, like they wake up in the morning to go to school. They can't focus because they lack sleep. They told me that they can't take it anyomore because it's affecting not only physically but mentally too. We talked to them before in a peaceful and understading manner ( late 2022 )and told them about our concern for our children. The mom is kind of defensive and irritated while we are telling her our concern. We understand why she reacted that way, we know her struggles, but how about our children, how about their struggles, how about their rights? It breaks my heart to see my kids thinking if it's better for them to sleep in the living room just to avoid the noise. Our home, their room is their safe haven. They love their rooms. They need peace of mind. They need a good night rest. Our children are good, God fearing, respectful and understanding. My kids don't really complain that much. They are good kids But as a parent seeing and hearing their struggles, i need to help and support them. We decided as a family, to support our children, to go with them and to file a complain to our Village association, regarding this matter. So that our neighbor can also understand our kids situation/ struggles too. To hear my kids side. Even if they close their windows, turn on the aircon. They can still hear screams, the shouting, the tantrums. We understand our neigbor"s situation. But how about our rights, my children? Thank you and hope you understand what I"m feeling right now as a parent. Hoping for a peaceful and positive outcome. God bless and thank you for reading this. Mom from the philippines🇵🇭

First of all, thank you for your comment. I think you are approaching this issue with a lot of care and concern and being understanding for both sides. Your particular situation isn't easy, it is unfortunate that the mother was defensive about the idea but like you said, we can only imagine the struggles and pressure she is going through as she raises an adult autistic daughter. Having said that, your children always need their rest and sleep! Please let me know what was the outcome of the complain to your village association.

If a child is overly clingy, is it a sign of autism? I actually was here looking for advice because my daughter is one and a half and is basically glued to me. I don’t mind picking her up but I was not aware it was another sign. The thing is is I am coming to a realization that I might be on the spectrum as well. And after realizing this and going through and trying to get help for it, I am realizing my daughter has a lot of the same symptoms I did as a child. We have not found some thing yet, that really works for us. I love my daughter but I do not have any time to myself or privacy. I’m not gonna blame it on her 100% because I also have two dogs that do not know what a personal bubble is and constantly follow me around all day as well. I am very happy that everybody thinks, I’m a good mom but at the same time it’s very exhausting. Never even having your own personal space. My daughter actually has been better about it than my dogs. I have no idea what to do about that one. I’m a stay at home mom so the only reason I could think that they are like this is because I am everybody’s primary caretaker.
@MariaBorde
@MariaBorde Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing Breanna! If you are able, you need to have your daughter assessed by a qualified professional (and you as well). Even though overly clingy can be a sign of autism, by itself it is not necessary the case therefore you need a professional involved that can make a proper evaluation. When she goes to bed, even if it for 10 minutes please watch a funny KZbin video or something that can pick up your spirit! Maybe eat your favourite treat or watch some movie trailers. Whatever it is EVEN if it is for 5-10 minutes daily, do it!

You are the neighbours from hell. If a normal child banged, screaming & is causing a nuisance to others It would be deemed you are being antisocial yet you expect us to put up with there screaming as if it’s our child it’s not it’s yours your problem not mine. Sry I must seem like a bad uncaring person. I am not I put up with a lot without saying anything. It’s simple really my sleeping is so disturbed my brain can’t handle it & I am desperate beyond words.I’ve got to be to be posting here. The child that’s causing me so much problems isn’t the child’s fault I get it however 17hrs a day screaming,banging & the real loud thudding on a hardwood floor I can’t handle it to loud so loud ive had a migraine every day since they moved in & sleep deprived it’s making me Ill. Of course I spoke to the parents got a ok we will stop the banging on your walls 1 minute later back to the same I may as well of talked to a wall. I would buy them a carpet I would do anything to stop the dark hell that has become my life. ; a very sleep deprived neighbour of a Autistic child.
@MariaBorde
@MariaBorde Жыл бұрын
Hello Face, it is called being sleep-deprived! And no matter the situation, every person should be entitled to enjoy a good night sleep without issues. I believe sometimes neighbours think that parents of autistic children want them to "put up" with their children's issues and they don't care if neighbours complain. But I can assure you that most parents don't want this, as you say it is not the child's fault and yet at the same time, you are entitled to rest comfortably in your own home. Is this an apartment complex?

No offense. This video should be titled differently. We have all obviously done these things and the behaviors continue or we wouldn't be looking it up. If it happened at 3 or 4 years old these tips might be OK. If the child is a teenager is when it's a problem and you kind of blame people for not talking about it earlier. Remembering our children are mentally delayed, some severely so, and that at times they don't understand what is being said due to cognition. So what's next? What do we ACTUALLY do if it is already a problem?
@MariaBorde
@MariaBorde Жыл бұрын
Hi Mindy, I provide general tips, you will need the assistance of a professional to deal with your particular situation. Having said that, in no part of the video I blame or "kind of" blame people for not talking about it earlier. As a parent of autistic children, I understand each case is unique and should be treated differently. Wishing you all the best.

tactually they may also need to chew on sthg, am on the spectrum and i struggled with that before i developped anorexia, heres my first advice, we have problem in signals, u may neeD a sensory thing and mistake it for hunger , after years now i no longer struggle but i always chew on sthg, i cant help it also, interoception, not receiving the accurate signals , you may not receive fullness signals, so drink before eating, and most importatntly, underneath all that repetetion of maladaptive rituals, theres anxiety that the autistuc person isnt aware of, so offer them awareness. awareness of themselves and putting words on their abstract unknown emotions is in itself the most therapeutic step of it all. unfortunately the obsession may start like that, obsessing abt counting abt nutrition was part of my early childhood, it looked so smart cause i was so tiny yet i knew everything abt nutrition, but this whole fixation was only triggered as i wasnt able to fix my compulsions, i was so low on emotions i would only be angry, had no awareness abt pain, happiness , anxiety, nothing, i could have received some awareness because it was mainly anxiety that was my issue and no one even knew, i was diagnosed two years ago. so talk to ur child abt it, give them awareness abt their own anxiety, put words to it cause it will come out in obsessions and repetion that is maladaptive.
