Thank you for your comment! I am aware of the benefits of coolant unfortunately. This vehicle has a cracked head that eats through coolant realitively quickly. It does not get into the oil, just comes out the exhaust. It is not worth the repair to fix the head. I bought it this way for cheap. It keeps working so I keep driving it. I would not trust it on a long trip. It is my grocery, hardware run vehicle. To save money I did not want to keep buying coolant. My mentality is to keep the vehicle going with minimal effort or cost. That being said, I had planned on draining the cooling system before we had freezing weather but the freeze crept up on me. Lesson learned.

The. I snapped back to this video and said oh crap that's why he cut that brace off the hub shaft😅so tapping the hub back out I actually ruined the bearing so I had ti warranty another got it done but what a pain the ass. Man so I forgot to come back and say those rubber tie rod ends you had to cut with a sawzaw I ran into the same issue so what the ended up being is when you have it on the stand it makes the tie rod end hang further down and kind of binds on the threads so to speak my bolt was also free spinning so I took a jack and jacked the tie rod end up and that allowed the bolt the thread off. Same going on it just sat there free spinning forever unit I jacked the tie rod end up so the bolt didn't have to pull the threads though. I got it done without a press thank God just bearing race set from harbor freight,a dead blow,mini sledge and some 2x4. Also good tip on cutting the brace off the hub shaft for some reason it wasn't working on the driver side so I basically cut all the way through it so when I hit it with a flat it came right off didn't mark the shaft just taking my time with a low setting on the dremel.

Great channel!!! New subscriber here. I inherited a 2015 Mirage with CVT. Has 185k miles. Transmission fluid has never been changed. I've been told by some "experts" not to change it due to the advanced mileage because it might cause more slippage, while others say I should change it. I feel a little bit of slip while accelerating, but only occasionally. What are your thoughts? Will I do more harm than good if I change it?
@OrganicFoxes
@OrganicFoxes 8 ай бұрын
Please change your fluid, the magnets will build up and then metal shavings will recirculate thru your trans breaking it. There's also a pan filter that catches debris, that can get full and block off the flow of trans fluid, also destroying your trans. I'm surprised your trans lasted this long tbh.
@OrganicFoxes
@OrganicFoxes 8 ай бұрын
another note, yes that thing about not changing it because it will slip is partially true for the cvt, only if you don't change the fluid, if you did change the fluid on time it would not be a problem but sometimes people that change their fluid really late will experience slipping, so really your taking your chances by changing it or driving it either way.

how many miles were on your Mitsubishi Mirage before the wheel bearing went bad. i have 150k miles on my Mitsubishi Mirage and wheel bearing is still good. I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my brakes right now because they are sticky and grinding for a bit after letting off the brake pedal. I have not figured out the problem yet. I think the one pad on the front brakes with the wings that needs to slide back and forth is most definately not sliding its just stuck in there so that could be it. I need to clean out the channels in there so the one break pad needs to be lubed up on its wings so it can slide back and forth. it seems like when i put new brake pads on every time there is no where near (very) enough room in there for the brake pads and rotors. I have almost zero experience at car repair though, so Diy ing the auto zone car repairs is just a guessing game for me and learning experience to say the least.
@shutupanddoityourself

There is around 120k miles. It sounds like a groove might have been worn where the pad slides back and forth. I would check to makes sure the pads are able to slide back and forth. If there is a groove you may need to fill it by welding it or replacing the knuckle. It is difficult to say without looking at your vehicle.

Yes, both cause they both have the same mileage. And bring along the new parts with you. It is best to use OEM. Trust me check out eBay for actual OEM parts some desperate car dealership is willing to sell parts at cost just to turn their inventory fresh. The shops will use all-date or Michelle to get depth specs. Totally worth $40 each. I have seen that tips are good but bringing them power drinks is even gooder

i have a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage Automatic CVT transmission car. This is a really great video. i didn't really understand what a CVT was when i got the car. I don't really push the car past the 3,000 RPM point. Or much past that. i just wait for the car to get going a bit. The way the CVT works, it seems to me that the transmission will slip or let go if you hit the gas too hard accelerating, when i am driving my Mitsubishi Mirage 2015. I have had pretty good luck with the car. I always change the engine oil every 3k miles with mobile one. CVTs cant handle high torque situations very well. Stomping on the gas just seems really hard on it. I also park the vehicle on the parking brake, and hang the car on the park brake all the way by using neutral, then put into park, or even better use the tires to sit on a curb so the weight of the car isn't on the transmission at all when parking the car on a hill. Go slow up hills. 185/70/R14 Falcons from Discount Tire are what i have been using. That is a bit bigger tire and it will void the power-train warranty to have them on there, they only rub a little bit in the back, not very often at all. it sounds like CVTs are more delicate than manuals or other auto transmissions from the things i have heard on youtube.

@@shutupanddoityourself well i am at the 110,000 miles mark, and normally the craziest thing is when i first got the car and i went for an aggressive pass on a two lane highway, so i pretty much stomped on the gas pedal, and the car/transmission reacted by letting the RPMs sorta flare up and their wasn't any hook up with the transmission, i think it wasn't connecting or maybe even slipping, so i don't drive it like a race car, normal driving it does fine, its a normal car, just on ramps for the interstate up hill, then i still just keep the RPMs at or close to 3,000 , and just give the car a minute to speed up, and on up hills i just don't over torque it, the CVTs don't like the high torque, and when in town, i give the CVT a second or two to think, like if i brake hard and slow down a bunch, then get into the gas again, the transmission needs a second to sorta figure it out, hammering the gas pedal is supposed to be bad idea i think, Jatco CVTs in the Mitsubishi's are supposed to be not as good as the Toyota or Honda CVT, but, i have had great luck so far, i think if you tried to destroy a CVT you could easier, i am wondering if there are Mirages out there with 200 or 300 thousand miles on a CVT, maybe check the Mitsubishi Mirage forum website, there is a lot of videos of people with Mirages from the Philippines i think or maybe Taiwan or Malaysia, not even sure, one guy removed the air filter box and put a different air intake on the car, cool videos too, i am gonna need to change the fluid soon in the CVT, coolant, plugs, i have changed the front brakes already wasn't too bad, the pads were probably not the best fit, but o'well, they work, I always change the oil very often, every 3,000 miles, i think what i did last time was pretty good, i put 2 quarts of the good Mobil One, and one quart of the cheep Walt-Mart Super-tech, the time i used just Super -Tech oil i think the car ran a bit ruff, I used a few gallons of the Lucas Oil fuel treatment in it, that lasted thousands of miles, The Marvel Mystery Oil (fuel treatment) is half the price of the Lucas oil fuel system cleaner upper cylinder wall treatment, I think doing that is a good idea, especially with using ethanol gas like i do,

I am still driving my Mirage 2015 CVT to work and it is still going good with out any major problems. I drive a lot for work and i try to drive the speed limit or even under the speed limit for more than one reason. For one reason getting too many speeding tickets will result in suspended license. Driving at high speed is much more dangerous, probably much more dangerous in small car. Driving home from work i am going 55-60 in 55 zone or target speed in 70 zone is 65. Saves more fuel to drive slower in any vehicle. I tried to pass a car on two lane 55 road soon after being the car and hit the gas pretty hard, the rams went pretty high seemed to be a lag or no response in the acceleration of the mph for a moment so i let of the gas and didn't pass the car if i remember right. I try no to hit the gas very hard on acceleration. I have read that CVT transmissions are delicate, especially Jatco CVTs that are found in the Mitsubishi Mirage, these Jatco transmissions are also found in Nissan cars. I change the engine oil all the time. I need to change the CVT fluid. I would feel better doing this my self, don't trust repair shops. Drain and fill supposed to work for this. Get about 50% fluid out. Fuel costs 10$ gallon in Europe, there are Mirages with smaller 1.0 liter engines would be even slower and get better mpg. Think this car is pretty crazy. One of those things that is crazy. Fruit has vitamins sugar levels are toxic, similar to candy, so in a sense fruit equal to candy, not healthy nutritious, most food in grocery store is not really going to be healthy or nutritious, crazy idea. Insane how many people in US drive trucks and SUVs have one person in the car, no point. Fuel expenses probably not a concern, employer probably covering fuel costs some of these trucks with no hitch or tools any purpose. VW XL One diesel hybrid got 150 or 200 mpg, could have been more of these. Learning Mitsubishi Heavy industries took part in some waste heat recovery on manufacturing facilities, significant amount of energy recovered. Lots of smaller sized cars as far back 1980s getting 55 mpg, Europe and Japan have many more smaller cars, more fuel and money efficient. Not good for the wallet to be driving a huge vehicle, even becomes social political belief in what car is better, what is more important fuel economy, money efficiency. Financially irresponsible over budget wasted too much money on expensive car, fuel costs. Social politics driving types of vehicles. Huge EV truck never beat small moped in terms of resources spent. Driving slow seems better for the vehicle and safety for many reasons including road rage at the Mirage in passing lane. @@OrganicFoxes

@@andrewkennedy3859 Looks like you know a good amount about the mirage too. I actually did get a speeding ticket in the mirage, I fought it court and won so no points. I drive pretty normal now, my avg is around 45mpg most days. About the trans, I don't trust repair shops either, with my cvt i actually do a full service every 20k, new pan filter, pan gasket, paper filter and fluid. I also am starting to just drain whatever comes out of the pan and put some more back in every 10k miles. Yeah those cvts are not really the best but when properly they will last. A big problem with these cvts is not actually the cvt itself but the owner, a lot of people don't even know you need to replace the fluid and filters and then their trans breaks between 100k and 200k miles. So again they aren't the best but when maintained they will last just as long as a normal transmission. They can also be a problem with higher power cars, they can't really handle high torque to well but when paired with that little 3 cylinder it's not to bad. I definitely wouldn't worry to much about it, i also wouldn't be worried about pushing your car hard for short bursts, unless your cvt is slipping ofc. Once your cvt is up to operating temperature, around 10 to 15 min drive on a normal day depending on the temperature outside, after that you can safely push it hard if you wanted, I wouldn't worry to much about that. I also noticed you mentioned cars being smaller and more fuel efficient around the 80s with the fuel crisis. It is really a shame we can't buy 50mpg gas cars anymore.

James excellent video. I have a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage De and i have the same issue with the flashing D. I wanted to know where did you get your replacement parts from?

If you check the description I have a list of the parts I used. There is also a Google doc which I have available for a step by step walk through. Thank you for watching!

It's not an off the shelf generic O-ring. I tried matching it up to standard rings and gave up. Some people have tried to make other rings fit and ended up with leaks.

@@strawboss59 i ordered a different o-ring after I made this video because the one I installed in the video leaked. The o-ring should not feel large. It should fit in the groove on the cartridge filter housing.The o-ring I listed in the description is the correct o-ring. I installed it and no problems. I also added a glaze of rtv for good measure. Mitsubishi does not make it easy to find the correct parts. Luckily other vehicles use the same transmission and some of the parts are interchangeable. However, they have different part numbers. I scoured the forums to find this information so others do not have to make the same mistakes I did.

@@shutupanddoityourself That's a shame, was your first o-ring an attempt at matching the oem ring? I approve your addition of rtv to ensure a good seal.The o-ring I used was ordered direct from Mitsubishi Canada & was a tight fit.
