Forgive my ignorance is this a christian group or jews for jesus service . I was in a synagouge recently and there was no music on shabbat or women leading the service or michrophones used it was in brooklyn ny

Marc Gellman is correct. However without the terror of the Hasmoneans, without the destruction of the second Temple, Jews, a minor people of the Middle East, may have disappeared into surrounding cultures. Hannukah should be celebrated for creating a new form of Judaism when Yohanan Ben Zakkai pleaded with the Romans to create a rabbinic academy in Yavneh. As a result, it grew roots and we are their descendants.

I am so grateful I got to share in this beautiful service. Howard was my mentor; he impacted my life in such a profound way. I still remember and follow his words of wisdom. I did not know he was ill and I regret not being able to thank him again before he passed. My deepest condolences to Irene and the entire family. Nobody was born as anything other than a human being . Religion has to be indoctrinated into a person ,usually at a young age by people you are supposed to trust. It’s called brainwashing. As people grow older and become aware of the world we live in , much like having an imaginary friend , we grow out of these delusional beliefs . Nothing wrong with having faith , just have faith in the right things , Like yourself and your loved ones .
