Driving 30 minutes down the road should be simple, but when you're driving a 45-foot bus that hasn't been moved in over a year, it's a little complicated. It had us asking questions like, "How did the bus sink so much just by sitting?"

Do you use a specialized GPS geared towards big rigs on your travels, or do you just hope for the best so far as clearances and routes go?
@magnoliathebus5 күн бұрын
On the way here from Oregon, we did not, but we were not exploring the countryside. We stayed at rest stops and dipped into truckstops only. We do have a Rand McNalley GPS for big trucks on our Amazon Wishlist for our next journey though!
@CathaxisDragonheart5 күн бұрын
@magnoliathebus in the interim until you get that GPS I'd like to recommend Trucker Path in the Google Play store. There is a subscription price unfortunately, but it's what I use to drive those big roll-off trucks in downtown Cincinnati. It does pretty good, but the routing gets a bit wonky the closer to your destination for some reason. 😅

We weren't sure if we should put floors down before or after we install furniture. We've seen it done both ways, but we decided to lay the floors down now so we have finished floors even if we don't have all of our furniture. Peel and stick floors made that possible, and we're excited for the outcome! What kind of floors did you use on your build, or what are you planning to use?

I can't believe you are attaching a plastic fuel tank next to the heater. I know diesel is less flammable than gasoline.
@magnoliathebusАй бұрын
@philramsey8588 the heater itself doesn't get hot, so there's no danger of the plastic fuel tank melting.
@richardpatterson7158Ай бұрын
Everything looks good except I think you might want to rethink the exhaust and air intake,you might want to reverse them because if you are driving and running the heaters your exhaust will be sucking up in the clean air intake . Just thought I would mention before you start driving the bus.
@magnoliathebusАй бұрын
@richardpatterson7158 thanks for pointing this out. We'll be sure to test it during a shake-down trip before we hit the road for real. Our hope is that, since the exhaust is pointing down near the edge of the wheel well opening, it'll flow out and away from the bus where the air intake is deeper inside the wheel well.

The marine fuel tanks came with one of course, but the pumps that came with the diesel heaters are supposed to be self-priming. They did prime eventually, once we'd eliminated both user-error and bad fuel lines!

When you're always learning on the job, sometimes you work by trial and error. We decided to install two diesel heaters (5 kw and 2kw), and we're hoping that'll be enough to keep us warm during winters in New Brunswick, Canada. What do you think?

Good morning have a beautiful Sunday and I love my bunk heater/diesel heater in my Peterbilt. I don't know what I would do without it. It helps save so much fuel by not idling and saves a lot of hours on this C15 Cummins engine. Loving your build let's go!

Quick question for the cargo doors. I watched the video of replacing the gas struts. Patrick said the new ones where an 1 1/2 shorter than the original ones. And that's why the door do not open all the way up like the other ones. Has he considered cutting off the strut mount that is attached to the bus frame and move it and re weld it 1 1/2 inch closer to opening basically allowing it to act like the short one allowing door to open all the way like the rest? Hes become a great welder, I know he could do it.... LOL... Just an idea.?
@magnoliathebus2 ай бұрын
That's actually a great idea, and I'm pretty comfortable with doing that. Wouldn't be for awhile, though, because we're deep into doing only the things we need to in order to move onboard soon!

We've faced some setbacks like tornadoes and thunderstorms that exposed leaks in our windows, but we're making progress on our floor installation. We even tackled the coolant lines, which we'd been dreading. Has anyone else installed house windows in your bus conversion? Did you have any trouble with leaks?

So here are some thoughts for appropriate names that you can use. Considering that as you describe, the land was used for logging, it is perhaps useful and appropriate, that liberty/freedom from natures exploitation be celebrated. The ancient Greek Goddess "Artemis" was sometimes used to personify liberty and freedom. Perhaps one of the hills on the property can be named Artemis.
@magnoliathebus2 ай бұрын
@Sophie-go3ql we really like this idea! We have other connections to Artemis (i use her in a book i wrote) so this really speaks to us. We can imagine using this in art in the property, too. Thank you!

You know what it's like to have a dream slowly come true? Sometimes, it barely feels real. We're often in awe, saying to ourselves, "We're doing it! We're really doing it!" That's what seeing our land for the first time felt like. The plans for where we'll build are still unfolding, but we're so happy to be able to see our dreams coming to fruition. We're still thinking about what to name various areas like the hills and the path down to the brook. Tell us, what would you name these peaceful spots?

For a long while, we were going to build a door into the middle of the bus so we could enter into the kitchen. Finally, we landed on the simplest solution: keep the door we have! Traveling with cats poses some unique challenges, namely how to keep the litter box stowed away so litter isn't scattered everywhere and the smell doesn't take over your bus. We've taken an idea from Mela and Don's bus build and walled off one of our luggage bays for the cats' litter box and extra bags of litter and food. We're calling it Hotel Catifornia!❤ If you travel with pets, how do you integrate them into your space? What advice do you have for cat and dog owners who want to travel with their fur babies?
