does that new handle have a gasket behind it to prevent water seepage?

It sure does. That's mostly why it seems to stick out a bit. The handles with the welded bolts (as opposed to the ones with the holes for rivets) couldn't take too much torque on the nuts without risking those welds, so we were careful about just tightening them enough for the seal to work. Also, on the one you see in this video, we had not actually put the nuts on yet 🙃
