This scenario was at the forefront of my mind when I started working on my Astra last year. I started hearing all kinds of horror stories that freaked me out. So I wouldn't go near it without buying all the safety equipment. I followed a mobile clutch mechanics advice who works under cars, SUV's and vans half a dozen times a day everyday who said, when working under any car, never ever stinge on the number of jack stands - solid ones, not these adjustable ones or bottle jacks that can fail, but proper solid ones with thick pins and sturdy welds, and don't shy away from buying jacks that are bigger and heavier for your vehicle. The more weight they can carry the better, for you. He said set them on the outer panel sills of the car, two on each side of possible as well as the inner to balance out the weight and if you're worried about scuffing the underside, get rubber mounts. Then, wheel chocks inside and outside the tyre and if to hand, spare wheels to lay underneath and if you got them, rubber blocks. Anything to act as extra support if it falls or slides. If using ramps, jam some wood or something robust into the ladders and so if it rolls forward or back it catches and stops, or gives you enough time to get out from underneath. Because my drive has a very slight gradient, not much but enough that with the hand brake off it starts to roll, every time I had her wheels up, I would push the car and see how well it held, only when I knew if my exertion never moved it, then it was balanced and wouldn't shift on its own. I did some pretty heavy work under that car, clutch work and everything, and it never moved once. Yeah it's extra cost, but who has time for hindsight when you're fighting for your life or living with crippling injuries, or 🍞? Sometimes, over time, I think complacency creeps in with some, but as many have said, it can be safe 999 times, but it only takes that once and it's lights out. Glad you're alright mate. Horrible seeing that car fall with you under it. Really nice to see how fast your neighbours rushed to your aid though. All the best.

Anyone any ideas
@VauxrezNeil3 ай бұрын
Sounds like an issue with the Hydraulic pump to me, there shoould be a manual boot release that you can access through the pull down arm rest in the middle of the back seats if you are lucky enough to have one (mine doesnt) bit of a stretch but it is possible
@Margery-bd2vm3 ай бұрын
Hi I fitted a new wiring loom for the twintop. But unfortunately that can't be the issue. Can you advise what else it maybe is the a module for the roof?
@VauxrezNeil3 ай бұрын
Firstly, yes, there is a roof module but the best thing to do is to get the codes read first then hopefully that will give you a starting point to diagnose the issue

Similar thing happened to me with a Volvo V70 a few years ago. I had jacked the rear up and had axle stands on both sides. I had just bent down to grab something and on the way up the car fell towards me pinning me between my garden wall and the rear of the car. I could not take in a full breath and started to pass out. There was nobody around but luckily my son had heard a noise from the bathroom. I don’t remember much after being pinned but a neighbour from two doors away came in and literally jacked the car off me sideways from the wall and the car! I was really sore for about 6 weeks and had one cracked rib. It turned out that even though the car was secure with the axle stands, the concrete on my drive had actually gave way slightly and caused it to shift! I dread to think if it had gone when I had just bent down. It would’ve been lights out! I still have bad dreams about it. My neighbour who had saved my life was suffering himself from lung cancer at the time. When the ambulance arrived they gave him oxygen first and he was in such a state they thought it was him that had been trapped! Poor guy died 2 years ago but I’ll never forget how he saved me that day.
