This thing goes through heat cycles so you have to wait for the steam to come back. Don't waste your money unless it's for spot treatment.

I put my package of frozen meat in a gallon Ziploc baggie then set it in a large bowl of cold water and the meat is defrosted within a couple of hours. I can't imagine setting a package of meat in the sink without it being in a secured plastic Ziploc bag and taking a chance that the water, germs from the sink or cleaning products seeping into the meat.

Wouldn't it defrost quicker on most surfaces if they are thin and raised off the counter. This ensures that the temperature of the air defrosts it. Anything laying flat on a surface that isn't raised, is going to defrost slower. The counter acts as insulation from the ambient air.
