I appreciate the way Rev Inks has knit Hebrews together, with each piece building upon the last, and reviewing the theme of the book with each sermon. I gained an important insight to the shaking of the earth and heavens as being what occurred on the cross. Powerful. Best of all is the understanding I am gaining of worship-why and how. I was blessed to hear the entire service and he weaves that message throughout the liturgy.

I have been blessed to sit under the preaching of God’s word by Rev Inks well over a decade. There are three subjects that I have never failed to hear on the Lord’s Day-Christ and his gospel, the distinction between law and gospel, and the reality of worship. All.three notes are struck in this sermon. The result is a better understanding of the reality of Christian worship. It’s more than our obedience. There is a reality that is greater than our physical reality-the reality that because of the grace of Christs work, we are blessed and privileged to truly assemble with the angels and the saints that have gone before us, to meet with the Lord on a festal event. We fellowship with our Lord. Let that sink in. Not “kind of”, or spiritually, as if spiritual is less real. No, it is more real. This world is passing away, but heaven is eternal, and we’ve been allowed to enter into that realty by faith, fully justified by our Judge. Amen and Amen!

There is comfort beyond comfort in this sermon. It is good thing to learn the main points of the doctrines of grace, but it is another thing to understand why they are true, scripturally. Rev Inks breaks down the topic of perseverance of the saints as the best of the Puritans would, and pastorally applies them, preaching a sermon that you will need to save the link to, so that you can revisit this topic in times of need, when you are searching for comfort. I was led to all the more desire to fight against my man of flesh, knowing that there is a fountain filled with grace.

This Hebrews series keep getting richer, surely in keeping with rhe intent of the author of that book. Rev Inks continually brings each message back into the context of the first chapter, and how The New Testament is a fulfillment of the OT and its prophecies. And then he traces out the local context, in this case starting in Chapter 10 with “therefore…”. This is a tour de force of faith-fleshing out that very word to unclutter it of our own modern and shallow understanding. He then opens up the cultural context of an athletic race, which would have been very familiar to the that Greco-Roman culture. Finally he helps us see the context of the Christian life of not seeing the end point in this world but in Christ, in heaven. I very much appreciated the better translation of the “for” in the phrase, “…for the joy that was set before him endured the cross.” And I was very much helped by seeing the “spectators” that are t cloud of witnesses as the Old Testament saints who endured in faith and now cheer us on in our race. What an encouragement! What a savior! Let us run this race, Brothers, with our eyes on what Christ has done.

As I was taking notes I had the thought that these sermons could easily become the text of a pastoral commentary on the Canons of Dort. Rev Inks organizes the main ideas and gives great opening summaries, I.e., “the big ideas.” It’s so helpful that he assigns terms we can grasp, such as “guilt, grime, and grip,” and then explains not only the text and meaning of the Canons, but also the supporting scripture. I finished with comfort and encouragement, and a sharp tool for evangelism and apologetics. He makes no bones about the ultimate answer to the objections, “Thats not fair,” and “but I have the ability to do choose good.” I have had those in my own mind. And after understanding the truths of scripture, I progressed to, “I don’t like it but I accept that it is what scripture teaches.” Finally the only answer is submitting ourselves by God’s grace, to the authority of scripture. Excellent teaching and preaching

This sermon was so good and so rich that I had to listen twice, and I am looking forward to a third time. i have listened to probably a thousand sermons by Rev Inks. Many times I think, “This is my favorite,” until another tops the list. Why? Christ and his blood is arrived at through a wonderful distillation of two age theology, covenantal theology, and historical-redemptive theology. I had to stop and start many times because of so many “Eureka” moments from a text that I never realized said so much. And all this to cause me to better better understand faith and be able to hold on in this age. Heb 10:36 (ESV) For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. Heb 10:37 (ESV) For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; Heb 10:38 (ESV) but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” Amen!

This sermon was an answer by God’s providence to a debate that I frequently encounter with Arminians that say that Reformed soteriology turns men into robots. I have been seeking a way to explain the position better. Pastor Inks preaching on the Canons of Dort, Heads 3 ad 4, Article 16, and his use of Ezekiel 36 explained it clearly. No, we are not robots. As he said in his sermon, “What before repelled us we are now drawn to freely. It works in such a way that we do not even sense that God is working. We desire what we did not desire. Our souls are undergoing renovation.” And, “Without replacing the person God works within the person. We are no longer repulsed by and resistant to God but drawn to God and desiring to obey.”

The best Reformed preaching turns the Bible from what may seem like a Rube Goldberg contraption into the drum beats of redemption that occur repeatedly from Genesis to Revelation. This sermon helped me untangle the commanded sacrifice of Isaac and see the beauty of God’s plans working out in parables/symbols that were fulfilled in Christ, and desire to live in faith that I will die in faith like the men of faith that have gone before, knowing that my hope is not in this world but in Abraham’s seed, Jesus Christ. Excellent sermon. Faith is indeed the substance of things hoped for.

What a beautiful explanation of assembling and drawing near, topped off by a glorious picture of what is really happening. How blessed to be clothed in the robes of Christ for the Great Feast. I am stricken by how a proper view of this demands the regulative principle of worship. We are meeting with the Lord, himself.

I appreciate Rev Inks’ sermon structure. The intro was especially helpful-like a big map of the Bible with a red arrow labeled, “You are HERE.” Like the rest, it was filled with reminders of important points for both the young and mature believer and the reminder that the scriptures are about Jesus Christ. And then it moved into the person and work of Jesus Christ. And why is he important? You need to listen to the sermon!

This sermon by Rev Inks is so rich it is impossible to say enough in a mere comment. It carefully and thoroughly explains works and grace, merit, and why salvation through faith by grace is our only hope. Arminianism/Pelagianism is explained and shown to be unscriptural. Christ is shown to be the perfect and complete savior that does it all. The gospel of grace is clearly drawn out from beginning to end in all its beauty, from the conviction of the law to satisfaction in our perfect Redeemer. As for the series on the Canons of Dort, this has been one if my favorites. Rev Inks made it personal with this comment: “It's called the curse of the law. It’s coming to grips with what I have merited-the curse, because I am evil and that's all I can merit from God because I'm not righteous. I'm not what I thought I might be or what I used to think Iwas. That's a hard thing to handle. It's a hard thing to handle to say with conscious awareness reflection I am sinful…I am evil…I like playing God, fighting God and running the show.” After that I wanted, needed, to hear about the answer to my misery.

Thanks be toThe Lord Jesus for the sermon. How come you don't preach on Gog and Magog Ezekiel 38 and 39 using Mr. Meredith Klein's " Harmagedon the end of the millennium". It's very pertinent because the prophecy is being fulfilled to the letter in the middle East. Galatians 4 tells us regarding Israel that "Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia corresponding to the present Jerusalem". This a prophecy that most of the Israelites will become Moslem arabs and they did.

This is a sermon chock-full of meat. The verse that kept coming to mind as I listened was Luke 24:32 (ESV) “They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” Oh to have been one of the disciples on the road to Emmaus as Christ connected the dots and revealed himself in the Old Testament. This sermon similarly reveals the treasures, especially on terms of Christ’s active obedience, incarnation, priesthood and heavenly rule. It’s grateful that such sermons are recorded that we can go back and hear them again.

The church is no different . Years ago we had the crusades nowadays it’s even worse because no one does anything . See the church is built on deception and twisting truth . The fact that people still worship false dieties after more than 2000 years is amazing in its own right . Remember this dear sheep the god you claim to serve though made up is an evil god .

Reformed preaching at its best. There is so much in this sermon, but you need not grasp it all to be changed by the scriptures it preaches- there are so many jewels you onky need to grab one to be blessed.. Rev Inks never leaves his listener without explanation of covenants and God’s plan of redemption that is woven into the Bible from Genesis onward. I greatly appreciate that he always deals with textual variants as he did in Psalm 40:6 versus Hebrews 10:5. These can be worrying to believers if they don’t understand why the text varies. Such variants used to trouble me and tempt me to doubt the reliability of scripture, but as I came to understand that there was a Hebrew and a Greek OT, and other reasons that Rev Inks has shared, the potential stumbling block was removed.

Very helpful explanation of the extent of Christ’s offering on the cross. I liked the answer why all this seemingly complicated theology is important- “Yeah, it is important. It's important because either your salvation is of sovereign grace and of God's doing, or your salvation is a cooperative effort and a cooperative effort means shared glory. God gets his glory for what he did and I get my glory cuz I had the sensibility to contribute to it.” “Yes, it's important-it's important for your own confidence that what Christ has done is done. It's confidence. It's important for your knowledge inwardly of the love of God that is personal, not just that God just kind of loved everybody and said, “Okay, whoever, like a little bit of this love? Come and get it.” No, he his love focused on a people with names and lives, and redeemed them powerfully. And, it brings home the personableness the love of God to the soul, and the power of that Redemption that is ours in Jesus Christ.”

“It’s the Canons of Dort that wants us to understand that God's redemption that comes to us in the proclamation of the gospel is a proclamation and a redemption of sovereign grace. The Majesty on high has done something that is not left to the fatigue of the wimpy hand of man but he has accomplished it by his grace.” There is so much comforting truth in this sermon as Rev Inks unpacks the Canons of Dort. This series has caused me some shame that I once saw the Canons to be as stuffy as a legal document. Rev Inks removes the road bumps by explaining legal words like “penal”, which simply means “punishment ,” and making analogies to give us a handle on concepts like “before time.” When I first started down the Reformed path I was without categories to help me understand, but Rev Inks understands that and cuts the meat into bite-sized pieces.

Glorious! This is the New Year’s message I needed-to be reminded of the greater reality that is breaking into this one, and my true identify as a citizen of Zion…the real Zion that we await. Rev Inks introduced me to the real meaning of worship in earlier sermons. Heaven became a reality that we participate in on the Lord’s Day every time we assemble to climb up Mt Zion and meet with our Lord in true and real communion. This sermon reminded me of why-we are pilgrims and outcasts, aliens in Babylon the City of Consumption. A week in that city will beat upon the believer, and Christ provides a weekly time of rest and repair, to be mended. I need to be reminded that the Great Shepherd knows I am weak and needy. He knows I struggle with the temptations of Babylon and often fall. But here he awaits to tend to heal me with his word preached, his body broken, and his blood shed for me. May God lift up my head in 2024 to gaze upon Christ in Zion!

The sermons at Covenant United Reformed Church, whether by Rev Inks, or a visiting preacher, are beginning to end aimed at the gospel. I have attended there and so are the liturgy and psalms/hymns. You can’t attend worship there without being aware that you have come to meet with Jesus and to be fed by him. Visiting more than 2 decades ago I was perplexed as to why the sermons always end up addressing our desperate need for Christ and his abundant and gracious provision. I soon realized that I need that. Jesus is the only answer to my eternity. And it is given at no cost. Wait, it’s even better, his Spirit will give to me the conviction sin, the desire to repent, and the faith to grab hold of him. Now THAT is good news.

One of the afflictions of my remaining sinful nature is to not value Christ as I ought. I often need to be helped by being reminded of my dire situation. “You've broken God's law you've been delivered into Exile. You are unworthy. You're headed for judgment.” Yep, that will do it! And then comes the good news- “But Rejoice! The lion, the lamb is worthy and calls you out of Exile into David's Kingdom, the kingdom of glory and of Christ.” One of the things I greatly value in Rev Inks’s sermons is the copious amount of scripture read before each of his expository sermons, which are then augmented by other references in the sermon and by putting the primary verses in context, as needed. Even his doctrinal preaching, as in this case, is heavy on scripture. As a young Christian I am not sure I understood the vital importance of this and how it is reflective of Reformed preaching-the entire role of the Reformed preacher, as I now understand, is to preach God’s word as he proclaims and distinguishes the law and gospel.

“By God's Sovereign Grace he does choose to save a people and he sent Christ to die on calvary's hill to pay the price for their sins to deliver them from sin's guilt from sin's grip from sin's Grime from sin's Gile and from sin's Gloom for that we can say praise God no one can bring a charge against God's elect”. Amen I appreciate Rev Inks working through the more difficult parts of the confessional standards, as they are surely harder to teach and preach. And yet even this sermon he concludes with the gospel. It is interesting that the errors that Dort dealt with are still present, especially in the American evangelical church where Reformed theology is embraced by only a small minority. Election is not only an affront to our pride but appeals to American individualism. And in our post-modern society, we embrace radical individualism.
