It was sad not seeing the legend icon 611 in 1989 nrhs in Asheville NC

My father worked out of Asheville some, his home terminal was Winston Salem. It was in the Carolina Division also. He would talk about how steep the mountains were. He sad in the early 1950’s the first generation diesel’s brakes were no better than the steam engines. The speed limit in places was 2-3 miles per hour.

Southern railway was the king of railroads, I wish I got to be around and see them while they were around 😔 I’ll one day have a early ns ho scale layout and I’ll be down their all the time!

Gotta love that ole Southern & the Nathan P5 too!

This reminds me. There used to be a Southern transfer line in Atlanta that ran behind my boyhood home. I'd give anything to learn more about that line. Ran from L&N/Seaboard Coast Line Hulsey Yard in downtown Atlanta, north through Midtown and to Southern's Armour Yard in Buckhead. Was something like this line seen here, but no grades. Big trains, too, every time. Three high-hood GP9s, running short hood forward,100 cars and sometimes, an orange Seaboard caboose. It's now a Rail Trail - "The Atlanta Beltline."
@tommythomason61872 жыл бұрын
Interesting to see the cabooses. They would not be around much longer.

Damn shame what the s-line has became

God-Dawg it!!!This is EXACTLY what us REAL Steam guy's want to watch. Maybe somebody could "inform" the "Nibies" into creating videos just like this, that by bringing the family along and showing the towns and/or cities on your way doesn't mean a "Flying Crap" to us. Just stick to the topic and get-rid of all other extraneous stuff...(Your KZbin hits will increase dramatically...GUARANTEED!!!

The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954.
@Db--jt7bt Жыл бұрын
Not like they did in 2004. They stopped when PSRR started in the mid 2010s. And they still wave on short lines.

In the days of the Southern Railway, Barber was where the north and south sides of the Tobacco Train passed. They swapped engines also. Two was all they left Charlotte with and four was usually what the southbound train had. The attorney locomotives we’re needed back in WS for the locals. My father worked that job for years.
