Kate was right to take things, politics seriously. And to think those things meant the end of the world. Hubble made fun of Hitler, and Mussolini thinking it not a big deal, who they were and what they did. THEN later on in history we find out Hitler and Mussolini unlived millions of people.😢 Kate was right along.

I am so happy to see this posted here. As a child I listened to this and learned to sing this song because of her beautiful rendition. I lived 140 miles from the nearest town and I would often go into the woods and sing this to God. Thank you so much. USA

Hubbell saw the big picture. The futility of it all. Katie was so caught up in her beliefs she couldn't see how letting it get so close and destroy you relationship wasn't worth it all. The bottom line was they were to very different people.

So he is basically saying that he was secretly hired to punch up the storyboards so that everyone would continue to give Streisand all the credit? I'm a Streisand fan, but that doesn't sound kosher!

Of course her voice is not what it was (duh), but she sounds phenomenal for a woman in her late 70's. She looks fantastic as well. She kills it in this performance, I don't know why it wasn't filmed (or was it)?

In Streisand's bio My Name Is Barbra, she has some very loving comments about Peter MacDonald. "He was so amazing to work with, and every time he comes to America, he visits me. I cherish my relationship with him." It should be clear that he was the camera operator for the film, while the David Watkin was the cinematographer. In the UK cinematographer is responsible for the lighting and the other person does the camera (who works directly the director).

I was just kidding. It makes me sad that we no longer have the voice of the "old" Streisand anymore. I've been a huge fan since day one and have all (Jesus, I lost count) of her vinyl albums and 45's. Probably the best performance I've seen of hers was the duet with Burt Bacharach....'One less Bell to Answer"...here on KZbin...it is phenomenal. I had a singing coach once who told me she saw Barb on Broadway in Funny girl. She said in reality Barb has a very tiny voice with little volume. I've read where other people stated this as well. I always pictured her as being a loud belter. But I'm sure you've noticed too, that when she speaks it's difficult to hear her sometimes because her voice does sound tiny. Best singers ever; of course, Barb......Donna Summer...Judy Garland....and Regine Valaquez. (I'm sure I'm leaving out others) I am surprised that Barb wasn't labeled "The Voice" or even Donna Summer for that matter. Whitney was a great singer...but just not one of my favorites. I don't even own any music of hers. @@snarkyenigma9219

Streisand and Redford are perfectly cast in these roles and act them to the edge of their formidable abilities - and that's what makes this film perennially fascinating - they were both such superstars at the time that the incandescence we, the audience, wire into fame, prevents them from entirely disappearing behind Hubbell and Katie, hence the film's aura of a romance over a harder edged realist piece were two unknowns cast in the roles. Don't get me wrong, its still a fantastic film (Redford's astonishingly adept timing is out in full force). It would be interesting to see how the film is received by younger viewers who were not fully immersed in the Redford/Streisand FAMEmania of the early and mid-70s.

This was the scene that made me understand Hubbel a little more deeply. He wasn’t just a “complacent capitalist” or a “pragmatic conservative” as other commenters have stated. He also overall understood the futility in the “political spats” that crop up routinely. He knew the pattern: issue arises, touted as serious, lives destroyed, things magically return to normal with no real indication of why the “spat” happened in the first place. When he said that, I understood where he was coming from. It was like we would call now a fabricated fire or culture war that people (or the system) use to distract us that really doesn’t mean anything. Whereas to Katie, everything held deeper meaning and was indicative of how far depravity could go if not stopped early on. So he was viewing it as the smokescreen of the moment and she was viewing it (as she viewed everything) as the start of the end of human rights. This was the scene that made me get he wasn’t just complacent, he actually just believed in the futility of it all and chose to focus on what was actually important and not get distracted by the smoke and mirrors of life and society. Before I was “on Katie’s side,” but I eventually realized neither of them is actually wrong. They just hold different viewpoints and they are both actually right.
@nancyhey101211 ай бұрын
@Likethesilenceoflight There are also indications in the movie that Hubble grew up in a more privileged situation than Katie did. That probably affected their different perspectives on “what really matters”.

Does any one know if anyone else has recorded this beautiful song? I can't find any evidence of it sung by anyone else but Barbara Streisand and and Andrea Bocelli. I would absolutely love to hear Il Volo perform it. It has reminiscences of Ernie Morricone "Your Love" and "Would He Even Know Me Now". I think it would be an absolute favorite.
