Ciri being the new protagonist is what we needed since the end of The Witcher 3. This was a dream come true after finishing the game. Cannot wait for this!

Clive is the weakest most pathetic 'protagonist' in the series. He is worthless, he achieves nothing and is full of petty spite. He cries like a whiny manbaby when things never goes his way and expects others to fix it for him. There is no character development with him whatsoever as there nothing to develop.

Thank you for the review. 'Mr Sunshine' sounds like a series worth watching, so I'll see if I can track it down somewhere. The two leads: Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-ri are already familiar to me, and I consider them both to be highly skilled and versatile actors whose talent is yet to be fully appreciated in the West. By the way, since you also appear to have a taste for good sci-fi, I recommend 'Space Sweepers' (2020) with Kim Tae-ri as the captain of a rag-tag crew of misfits who make their money by collecting space junk in orbit around the Earth. It's daft and funny, but has some excellent high stakes battles and chase scenes. As for Lee Byung-hun, well amongst his back catalogue of superb roles, I recommend looking for 'The Good, the Bad, the Weird,' (2008) a 'noodle' western (shot in China) in which, for once, Lee plays a villain. It's an obvious homage to Sergio Leone's 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,' but done with humour and respect to the original.

This was my first time seeing Kim Tae-ri in anything personally, but I was already familiar with Lee Byung-hun. I agree that he's highly skilled, he's been really great in everything I've seen him in so far. Besides Mr. Sunshine/Squid Game I also really liked him in Iris and even though that show feels a little outdated by today's standards, I still really enjoyed it because it reminded me of similar spy thrillers I loved growing up. I've also been meaning to get around to watching I Saw the Devil for like, a year now lol, which I heard is another great movie with him in it. I think I might've heard about The Good, the Bad, the Weird in passing before but I haven't heard of Space Sweepers before, just looked it up and it looks pretty fun so I'll give it a shot in the future if I manage to find it on any streaming services, thanks for the recommendation!

I came across this series quite by chance (on a certain streaming site I can't mention here) and was impressed with its character building, story telling and brutal sense of justice. However, as you pointed out - sometimes vigilante justice can become violence for the sake of violence, as each villain becomes little more than a 'punchbag' for an all encompassing desire for vengeance for vengeance's sake. Just how does one go in the pursuit of 'justice' before one is in danger of becoming the very thing one abhors? The series strength is showing just how shallow our dark sides are and how easy it is to become seduced by the blood lust. Having said that though, it's a damn fine series and kept my attention right to the end. A few points re Season 2. Kang Ha-Na does not return and I thought the rather casual way her absence is glossed over in the script was clumsy and smacked of a poorly written ret-con. However, the fabulously wicked phone scammer, Madame Lim does return. No spoilers, but it's hilarious! The end of Season 2 does tend to rely on too many conveniences and a deus ex machina 'reveal' to round things off, which I found disappointing. Overall though - not bad, but not a patch on Season 1. Another series you might like to consider is a very black Korean comedy/drama titled 'A Killer Paradox', still available on Netflix. Essentially a young store clerk, Lee Tang, accidentally kills a rude drunk, only to later learn via the Police investigation, that the man was in fact a serial killer. It's not long before Lee Tang realises he has an ability to sense 'bad people' who, in his opinion, deserve to die. Throw in a Detective on his tail and a nerd who is convinced Tang is the next 'Batman' and you've got one very weird but oddly entertaining series.

It definitely held my attention all the way through too, really good and engaging series. I heard not long ago that Kang Ha-Na doesn’t return for Season 2, I had hoped that they would handle her absence a lot better but if what you said is anything to go by then apparently not, lmao. I am very interested in Madame Lim’s return though because I was curious as to what her fate would ultimately be with the way her story ended in Season 1. Looking forward to checking out Season 2 someday, it sounds pretty decent. I actually just finished watching A Killer Paradox, coincidentally enough lol. It was definitely an entertaining series and I really enjoyed its unique premise. The main duo and the detective were very interesting characters to follow, and I also really like how the earlier episodes had a horror vibe to them with the dreams/visions Tang was getting from the people he killed.

@@aurumrevenant I've just learned that Taxi Driver Season 3 will be released in late December. I really hope it's better than Season 2! From the casting list I've seen a few of the 'old team' seem to be missing, and there are new faces, presumably to fill those vacancies. The writers are keeping some elements hidden though, but I'm sure we'll see the return of Madame Lim. She's a great character and the off/on nearly romantic fling she almost had with Kim Do-Ki made me laugh. Both actors were obviously having a field day with their lines. By the way, Shim So-Young, who plays Madame Lim is a superb comic actress. I've seen her in many Korean TV series and she never fails to deliver. I have a feeling Madame Lim will be around for some time to come! I'm pleased to read that you enjoyed A Killer Paradox. So wonderfully dark and twisted and I'm pretty sure we'll see a second season before too long. Another series I recommend is 'A Shop for Killers.' A young girl, raised by her uncle, learns self-defence under his tutelage. However, after his untimely death, she suddenly inherits his business - a strange underground 'shopping mall' that sells all manner of weapons and deadly devices to professional killers, some of whom decide they want to take over her late uncle's business. Let the bloody mayhem commence!

@@landscapedetective4064 That's surprisingly soon lol, I'll have to track down season 2 eventually. I'm not surprised to hear that So-Young has history as a comic actress, it seems like that sorta role would be well suited for an actor like that. A Shop for Killers sounds pretty good too, I heard about in the past in passing, so if I ever stumble across it sometime I'll definitely give it a try!

The Crow has a depth that is rarely seen in Graphic Novel adaptations. And that it accomplishes this so quickly is extraordinary. It touches upon themes of loss, grief, rage, justice, and an enduring transcendent love that overflows and is not just romantic. The world was made better for having had Shelly and Eric in it, and it is made worse for their loss. There is a pervasive sadness throughout the entire movie and, yet, it somehow manages to end in an uplifting note. The Crow 1994 is a masterpiece.

Idk know too much about American remakes. But I think Oldboy 2013 is enough for me to realize that they’re unnecessary. And by an acclaimed director no less. If The Raid remake is good, cool. If not, I won’t be one bit surprised. The Raid duology is perhaps my all time favorite action series and they should be left as is. That aside, I’m excited for Gareth’s new movie Havoc which is supposed to be his foray back into action. Although I’d like to see him tackle something in the John Wick world, should he and Chad Stahelski see eye to eye on how they approach action films. But hey, Ballerina is being done by the director of the Underworld movies so, maybe? Great video btw, this was a fun watch. :) glad you enjoy these films as much as I do!

If I recall correctly, you referenced The Raid duology in one of your earlier videos. So, I decided to give it a watch. I thought the first film was excellent. Low budget, gritty and dirty and well within the realms of believability, considering the power that some of these organised gangs have. However, the second left me feeling exhausted and actually wishing it would hurry up and finish. Yes, the fight scenes were superbly choreographed and executed (I particularly enjoyed the mud fight scene in the prison exercise yard) and the characters were well defined, but overall it felt as if it had been written to attract a western audience. It pandered to the western expectation of an 'oriental' martial arts/supercop/thriller. Less is more, in my opinion, as we got with the first film. Still, without giving away spoilers, I do agree with you about the last line spoken. Perfect ending! A US remake? Ugh! I can't see any US studio making a film in which their heroic SWAT teams would be taken down so easily. They'd probably end the film with the 'hero' finding a way to blow the whole building whilst miraculously saving all the innocent residents, especially a young, single mother and her baby...unless they decide to go down the woke route with a STRONG FEMALE protagonist. Generally I don't bother with US remakes as it's rare they even understand the source material, but I did come across one low budget US remake of an Australian short film that was well done. 'The Perfect Host,' (2010) written and directed by Nicholas Tomnay (based on his original short film) is essentially a black comedy/thriller about a wounded robber on the run who cons his way into someone's house, only to slowly realise that his 'host' enjoys sadistic mind games. Starring David Hyde Pierce (brilliantly cast against type) as the host, and Clayne Crawford as the man on the run, it's delightfully perverse and oddly enjoyable. Sorry, very little blood letting though. Another film I recommend is 2LDK, (2003) directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi. Part of the 'Duel Project' (its partner film being 'Aragami: The Raging God of War', directed by Ryuhei Kitamura. Basically it's a supernatural samurai showdown). Both films were made after a bet - to see who could make the better film under certain restrictive rules: no more than three main characters, at least one of whom must die by the end; one month to write and prepare and one week to shoot. Low budget and roughly one hour in length. 2LDK follows one fatal evening in a flat, temporarily shared by two jealous actresses who both auditioned for the same role in a film titled 'Yakuza Wives.' As the evening wears on, their petty differences escalate from verbal insults into full-on violence...with a surprising twist at the end. It's available to view, alas only in 360p, on YT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKiynXxpj7VmhKs Anyway, that's enough of my ramblings. Cheers.

I find myself rewatching the first Raid film the most for similar reasons, it's the most straight-forward and doesn’t drag on as much. The second film dragging on doesn’t bother me as much on subsequent viewings as it did back when I first saw the film, although it might’ve played a role in how exhausted I was after my first viewing lmao. A US Remake doesn’t really interest me that much either, especially because of how accessible/watchable the original films still are to this day. Might get stuck in development hell anyway lol. The Perfect Host seems familiar so I’m sure I’ve heard about it in the past but haven’t seen. Sounds like it has a great premise though that works as both a short film and feature film, seems appropriate that it doesn’t have much violence/bloodletting because after looking up information it seems like a film that’s meant to be more psychological rather than gory/in your face (but that’s just my assumption). I haven’t heard about 2LDK and Aragami on the other hand but the idea behind the creation of those films are really interesting and how they were made. Must’ve been challenging to film them in such a short amount of time but those restrictions and challenges sound like they might’ve resulted in films that are definitely very interesting or creative, it wouldn’t be the first time for sure.
