For reps, you repeat the 1min/3min combination for 12-16mins. The would be about 3-4 reps. I’d then do 2 sets of this.

Depends on your structure for the week and your goals but I’d do 1-2 sessions for a couple weeks. Then change up the training so you don’t plateau.

Hey Chaz, just wanted to say that I love the videos you put out like this!! As a junior cyclist aspiring to make it pro some day, being able to see the tried and true workouts and rides that an actual pro uses is such an incredible resource!

Appreciate it! Keep up the hard work and training. 💪
That's an interesting structure. I see many over /under sessions comprising 3 blocks of 3 x (1min/2min) separated by 5 min zone 2, which is what I currently do. You have two blocks separated by 15-20 mins. Do you think your structure is better or are they just variations of the same thing? Thanks for your short but informative videos.
@ChazTurmon2 ай бұрын
Different variations and it also depends on what you are training towards. Maybe it’s a 10k TT, or a race with a couple 15-20min hills.

What's the rest between intervals so after the 1min over3min under do you go right back into 1 min or is there a rest between them? Great contect, keep it up!
@ChazTurmon2 ай бұрын
Sorry if that wasn’t clear in the video. So you’ll do 1min/3min for a total of 12-16mins. That should equate to 3 or 4 repeats of the over/under. Then do a zone 2 “rest” for 15-20mins. Then do one more set and call it a day.

People can have issues setting up SMP saddles for a few reasons. The tilt and set back can be different to others. On most models that have that hammock type effect the nose often needs to be lower than any other brand relative to the rear height. The other thing that hammock will do is stop you scooting forward, which we might do if the setback or height is not right. The seating position on the SMP is pretty fixed on the saddle so you may need to lower or slide forward on the rail more than others as you can’t compensate as much like you might with others.

Hate the SMP saddles. They were PROFOUNDLY uncomfortable for me. I ride a WTB SL8 saddle, and it is the best saddle I have ever owned, and I have been riding road bikes for 42 years. My advice for male riders is... If you are tall, or a big guy regardless of height, you are probably riding a saddle too narrow for your sit bones. Took me a long time to figure that out. If you have numbness, or the area between your sit bones gets sore, you might want to look into that. I think of SMP saddles as a ridiculous gimmick, but whatever floats your boat.
@Tyler_Kent3 ай бұрын
It's definitely to each his own. As I read your comment, I looked across the room at the SMP Well on my road bike and WTB Pure V (an older model Pure) on my mtn bike just to make sure I still think they're quite similar lol. Theyve both got contoured profiles, drop noses and swooped back ends. Did you try the Well M1? Regardless, it sounds like you're into flat seats as I just looked up the SL8. The SL8 is definitely not the stereotypical WTB. I've been riding 47yrs and it was miserable on the rear-end until I discovered the WTB Pure in the mid 2000s. I rode various versions on my road bike as well until I tried the SMP Well. (The Pure model has gotten narrower over the yrs which I don't like.) But, contoured saddles aren't for everyone as your comment makes clear.

Wanted to thank you, i just did such a session on zwift. I bailed on the second half of the 3rd set because i got to the top of the zwift climb and that was too good an excuse to stop pedalling. It was pretty brutal, but didn't kill me either. I can see myself doing 1 or 2 of these a week for a while.

Leaning the bike more than your body vs leaning your body more than the bike is a choice depending on the ciromstancis in both optiontions, your Centre of Gravity is in the same location related centrifugial force. For mountainbiking, leaning the bike more than your body allows the tires to grip better. For roadbikes it realy depends on the road surface and speed in combination with the overall stability needed. Countersteering is obvious for all steering methodes

So far I am enjoying it. I’ve had the traditional power for a few years now. The mirror doesn’t kick up as aggressively in the back. It’s a bit more flat. I will say the 3D printed technology is comfortable as well.

High cadence usually results to faster breathing so how can we maintain zone two ???
@ChazTurmon7 ай бұрын
Good question. Sometimes we get too ridged and think am I still doing z2 if I’m breathing too hard, he is too high, or I have to surge at z4 up this climb. If we remove heart rate and power from the equation, “z2” would be the representation of where your LT1 is. The first point of lactate production. It’s mostly on the higher side of the z2 range. So these surges with higher cadence, even if breathing hard, is putting right at LT1. And they are brief. A 4min ramp where paient doesn’t go much higher than low z3 but the cadence jumps each minute. This helps muscle recruitment and coordination. If it takes you out of “z2” for a couple brief minutes for your entire ride it will not negate the benefits of the zone 2 session. Hope this helps.

How many times per week can you do this workout whilst also leaving days for sub or threshold intervals on a 6 day training week
@ChazTurmon7 ай бұрын
I’d say once a week if doing other workouts. Think about this, limit your weekly hard workouts to 2-3. That way you get enough rest between.
