I bought the biggest best Archive Garage rear kit... with everything including heavy load leaf springs, FOX Shox with the remote reservior with rear shock relocation kit. It handles weight, can flex enough to walk right across a roadside ditch without lifting a tire off the ground, and has a superb ride on and off the road riding on 35x10.50x16 Accelera Radial Badak X-treme Mud terrain tires. I'm glad I researched all options and bought Archive Garage. I get compliments concerning the flex and overall look of my extremely capable 1st generation tundra. After I re-geared it with 4.56 ratio and added ARB Air Lockers to both the FR & RR differentials... its really an off road ready ride thst can get me anywhere in the boonies if I so desire. It makes me happy when things I buy... like Eric's suspension system upgrade actually ends up performing even better than I could have ever imagined possible. What well spent money that was for my country living personal lifestyle... Yesssss sir!!! Worth EVERY dime all the time!!!

That NUT falling out: another reason for duct tape in the garage! Actually only falls out if remove the tensioner. I just had to remove that pulley and install the bolt again to move the tensioner out of the way just to get that timing belt cover off.

Thanks for the video! I also have a 2004 sequoia, it skipped timing and I’m trying to determine carnage. You mentioned that it’s a NON VVTI engine, would that mean it’s not an interference engine? Could this mean that my engine could be ok?

The 1gr-fe valve lash check is the same as this. You could pull the piston and check the rings and cylinder wall. Could be cheaper to rebuild than buy a used one.
@mikemike47372 ай бұрын
do a leak down test on cylinder three and check where the leak is coming out from, from exhaust, intake, radiator, or another spark plug hole on cylinder 5 or 7. If you get air coming out of spark plug hole on cylinder 5 or 7 then it's a head gasket leak between cylinders. If you get bubbles coming out of the radiator cap then it's a head gasket leak into the coolant galleys. Either way it's a head gasket. On the manual for a 2005 vvt the specs on valve clearance are for the intake 0.15 - 0.25 mm (0.006 - 0.010 in.) , for the exhaust it's 0.25 - 0.35 mm (0.010 - 0.014 in.) had a misfire on my 05 sequoia P0304. did leak down test. There was leakage coming from cylinder 2 spark plug hole when I would inject 100psi on cylinder 4. It's a head gasket or cracked block. Highly unlikely a cast iron block would crack on this motor.

Out of pure curiosity, how many miles are on that 2UZ
@archivegarage76384 ай бұрын
259,000 and I believe it is rare for the piston/rings to be hurt at those miles.
@haydenjayo65714 ай бұрын
@archivegarage7638 I would think so aswell if it had oil changes done on time I would be surprised to see piston ring failure at that mileage, I just bought my 2003 tundra with a trd supercharger on with 127k miles and I'm a little nervous on how the 2UZ will hold up at higher mileage with boost I've got a Japanese produced engine in it though from before the Alabama plant opened and supposedly those rods handle boost a little better

Which one should I get if I have 700 pounds on tongue and squat ?
@archivegarage76385 ай бұрын
A trailer with 700lb tongue weight will likely be around 1,000 lbs added to rear axle weight/leaf springs, as the hitch ball is about 4' behind rear axle centerline, it's an overhung load. Weight is transferred off front axle to rear axle. My recommendation would be HDs, but even MDs will be significantly better than stock springs. Check fitment notes on our site listing for approx lift height

what setup do you have in the front to level the suspension out?
@archivegarage76387 ай бұрын
Premium front setup would be Fox/King/ADS 2.5" extended Coilovers with a mid-travel Upper Control Arm. There are more affordable choices that offer lift, I don't recommend 5100s at all.

You left out the hardest part! Getting the center pin to fall into the axle perch! That needs to be explained / taught. It's a nightmare for most!!!
@archivegarage76388 ай бұрын
It's very simple, don't try to install a lift spring on 1 side, while the other side still has the stock flat spring locked down. Notice in the video we don't have a stock spring on the other side. Just make sure to follow how we have the axle pinion supported by 3 jackstands so it won't roll down and fall.
@mrkodyscoots5 ай бұрын
Watching this after did it with 2 tiny jack stands and a floor jack.. after dropping the driveshaft had to pull out the factory bottle jack and many pry bars later we are together. 10/10 follow this method😂.

Will the shock relocation cause axel wrap and wheel hop?
@archivegarage76388 ай бұрын
No, it doesn't cause axle wrap. In fact, the truck never experienced ANY, I took this Tundra to Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan and driving through hot sand with mud tires tested that for sure. The rear suspension worked so good, I didn't think about it all day there, later I realized it just worked.
@-ellimist-8 ай бұрын
Would be helpful if you mentioned what grease to use.
@archivegarage76388 ай бұрын
The best grease to use is the grease supplied by Energy Suspension or Prothane. I believe it is called Formula 5 grease. I feel Marine grease is the next best because of anti-corrosion properties, or I have used Super Lube white grease and it's pretty good.

That’s not how you measure the lift because the tire size will be a variable in your method. Whereas when you measure from the wheel hub to the edge of the fender you’re going to get the true lift height regardless of tire size.

@jerrydc81810 ай бұрын
How’s the ride compared to factory. Also how much does it raise the bed again, compared to factory. Your right about the add a leaf. They don’t work. I have one. Now I have the Sumo springs. They work but I think I’m better off buying new springs altogether. Just being honest. The man made logical sense to do it right the first time. I’m not paid btw. I’m looking into these. 😊
@archivegarage76389 ай бұрын
The ride is very good. We have estimated lift on our site listings depending on how much load you have. Sumo Springs can support weight, but also sharply limit your suspension travel
