Hello,I am currently working on trying to get my dad's 41 K3 pulled up from the back 40 where he put it years ago. Tires are gone and it has the split rims. Where do you find replacements for those rims?As you probably already know they are 6 lug and appear to be 16 inch rims

Just found this video. THANK YOU! I recently bought a 1965 IHC 1300 4x4 that was converted by Pirsch of Kenosha, WI into a Firetruck. I have the same rear axle and have been trying to identify it off the Build Sheets and Records. This video has pointed me in the right direction. Thank you again!

this is a very cool mechanism. they are simple in terms of parts but i can see some reliability issues with the power being transfered through only 2 pairs of pins. also the axle seems to be a bit unhappy when turning. are you repairing this axle? or is that a natural quirk of them?
@BareKnuckleBinder27 күн бұрын
@@puddlejumper6999 I’m repairing this one, it has been running reliably for 70 years and it’s time for a refresh. “Unhappy turning” could have something to do with the lack of maintenance, 5lbs of caked in mud, etc. Coleman axles typically steer with a single finger without power steering since what you’re not seeing are absolutely massive wheel bearings and swivel bearings double the size of conventional 4x4s.

Great explanation and the VISUAL aid makes it much easier to understand. AH HA.............. Thank you,.
@MichaelHelinsky-ws1ntАй бұрын
although it appears complicated , the coleman design really isn't , the weakest link in a conventionally designed front driving axle is the u joint or rzeppa joint or bendix joint , this design has none of that , which makes it almost bullet proof , great video as always
@AlAllertonАй бұрын
Ok, now I understand how it works! Mostly. Pretty cool. Those are some pretty impressive parts and those bearings look like something off a freight train or something! Definitely built to last. Looks like one of those things you do right and it should last another lifetime or two. Always looking forward to the next videos.

How much does the Coleman front axle differ in turning radius vs. a similar truck that is 2WD w/ a normal straight front axle?
@BareKnuckleBinderАй бұрын
@@MarkMcCain-uw1dn it’s sucks! Haha that’s the worst thing about it. Does NOT make tight turns.

@barrygrant2907Ай бұрын
When it all goes back together, those bolts should be saftied in pairs, three together at the most. A single strand, like it was, is more subject to breaking and allowing all of the bolts to loosen.
@russdavis1960Ай бұрын
I can see where this MAY be helpful on a 'stepped' driveshaft (smaller diameter ends) and a good sized piece needs removed from the larger tube section. On a 'single diameter' driveshaft like was used here, I simply grind off the weld from one of the yoke ends. Remove the yoke (it will have a section of the yoke which slips into the end of the driveshaft tubing), shorten the tubing to the desired length, tappy tap tap the yoke back into the tube, and weld it. I've done numerous driveshafts like the above described method and haven't had any vibration or failures.

You know, I don't get me a nice old Dodge, does cake? If I take the frame off at Dodge and put it on air and my. Give me a power. Stroke, put power stroke up in there and modify it. Very informative video... Questions for you: A neighbor wants to sell me a similar truck (1956 or '57 S-160 4x4 with BD-264). Belonged to seller's father in-law; seller knows nothing about it. I had only 5 min to look it over but will be going to take a more thorough look soon. Is there any hope that it would have a transmission with overdrive or maybe a 2 or 3 speed auxiliary transmission (aka "Brownie" / "range box")? Assuming it has the same setup and gears as yours, what I can expect for max sane cruising speed? Dare I ask about MPG? Looking forward to your next update.
