Money isn’t enough! You’re so right!! We need to find happiness others ways ! I always tell myself that…. Money doesn’t bring joy. It brings security….sure but it’s not all that matters. For me family and love is worth more than money 🩷

I watched you to the end. Come to your own conclusion there. ;) Different generation here so the word "hustle" brings up this kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXfdfqZoiLNgY9U for me. Ah, the days of disco and dancing. Hustling also suggests doing something to fool someone else, to me, as in "I hustled him out of 20k, man." Hustle also means to me, in the present time, to hurry up. Sadly many more professions than one might imagine have a built in expectation that you work longer hours and "burn the candle at both ends" to make the deadline. High tech and those kinds of environments are rife with it ... still. The difference now is that this is combined with a "good enough" mentality. This means quality of work is measured more by how quickly the deadline is met rather than whether the product is safe or made well. (Think of bugs in the software, or the Phoenix system?). Back to why I watched to the end, I suppose that I wanted to see how you would define it and where you were going with this topic. The expression "side hustle" was something that I first learned about from clients, btw. I think if it gives you pleasure, and you're not doing it for the money necessarily, then why not. I used to enjoy teaching knitting classes, for instance. I wasn't paid much for it but I enjoyed watching students learn the joy of creating something for themselves. In a world where gratification is often remote or delayed, doing something creative can provide a practical and faster route to gratification. Keep on doing your 'thang'! :)

Love it! You’ve got me dancing while I play the song in the background as I type this haha! You’re totally right-there are so many ways to understand the word "hustle." And I agree, with all this speed, we’re in an age where quality often takes a backseat. Society seems to care more about quantity these days, and we can see it in everything from fast food to fast fashion. And yep, when you bring up finding gratification, it definitely gets me thinking about internal vs. external satisfaction. Thanks so much for sharing, Christine!

@authenticLivingWithEmilie, how can you tell the difference between your own desire or you being influenced? Also, what about being influenced for the better?
@AuthenticLivingWithEmilie
@AuthenticLivingWithEmilie 14 күн бұрын
These are such great questions! I’ll do my best to answer them here. The first and most important thing, I feel, is being really clear on your values and checking in with yourself often. For me, when something comes up and I’m unsure whether I want to pursue it, I usually reflect on my values. I ask myself if it aligns with them and whether it’s moving me toward the life I want to live or away from it. You’re absolutely right that we can sometimes be influenced in positive ways. When I feel that I’m being influenced, I typically go back to my values again or reflect on it during one of my quarterly Think Days. Ultimately, it comes down to asking myself how I feel about the opportunity and what messages I’m telling myself. For instance, if I feel like I “have to do it” or think I “should do it” but don’t feel excited or lit up by it, that’s a sign it’s not something I genuinely want to pursue. On the other hand, if I’m thinking, “Wow, that’s such a cool idea!” or “I’d love to do that!” and feel energized and excited, that’s usually a sign of a positive influence I want to follow. I hope that makes sense! Let me know if you’d ever like to dive deeper into this. 😊

Hustle culture can be analogized with young people trying to be "day traders". They being fast and loose and think they're doing stuff but they're too arrogant and incompetent to realize that it's hard/stressful, it's not likely to be a net gain, and it's not sustainable. Live your life as an index investor. Slow and steady, and try to do meaningful stuff when you can.

Hi again Emilie - sorry to see that you’re not feeling all that well, hope it gets better soon :-) Bad news at this end I’m afraid, yesterday - only six days away from Christmas - we suffered a horrendous loss in the value of our shares. I do understand this is a natural thing that happens in the share market, but it’s the intense impact that has on my mood. That is something I think I really need to reflect on. As a team, my family has done a lot for our community and even for our country, and sometimes it just feels like it’s all completely disregarded unappreciated. I find it very difficult not to grow resentful and hateful of wealthy people. But I know that’s a very subjective reaction and maybe something I need to grow out of on my journey to a slow-lived successful life. I did have a nice spark this afternoon though, a person that I had to cancel a contract with (as a result of these problems) sent me a very nice message, wishing not only me but everyone in the world a safe, smooth and fair 2025 ❤️
@AuthenticLivingWithEmilie

Hi! Thank you! I'm definitely taking it easy so this cold will (hopefully!) be gone by Christmas. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss in your shares and how much it’s affecting your mood. It’s tough to go through something like that, especially when it feels like your hard work isn’t being fully recognized. The fact that you’re aware of those feelings of resentment is such an important step, and I think it shows how committed you are to working through them. I’ve definitely felt that way in the past too, so I completely understand how challenging it can be. I think for both of us, it’s about remembering that we’re playing the long game-and by staying true to ourselves, the results we’re hoping for will come in time. And wow, that message you received was so kind! It’s amazing how much a simple gesture like that can brighten a tough day. Sending lots of good energy to you and your family during this difficult time! ❤

@gearfacts
@gearfacts Ай бұрын
Well for financial success you can't beat a good salary in a job that you like - that's just the way it is! But for people who want to live slow (which I think necessitates valuing personal time over work time and having a relatively low0intensity job) a side-hustle can actually be pretty relaxing, like selling jewellery at a market, running an ebay shop or even doing these youtube channels (I get a grand a month from mine and it's not too taxing). Investing is works and takes minimal time but ironically I find it VERY stressful, so there you go...

People are programmed robot slaves of the system thinking happyness starts with extern factors like status, money, material things, looks, lust......all means nothing and its relativ and an illusion create by society.... If your happyness depend on extern factors, you will never be happy because extern factors are endless. Happyness starts inside you. Thats why a lot of people buy stuff or look a certain way to create an illusion for the outside world out of emptyness.....sad. The more people around you, the more expectations, talk about others, lying, frustrations, negativity, jealousy, double standards, violent, own benefits, hypocrites, judgement, comparing etc....... reflection of their broken souls. Alone or in solitude you have more strength, peace, power, happyness, freedom and time to reflect and work on yourself in the here and now where the magic happens. No, not feeling superior or better then others but more be carefully and aware. Be the light in your own life.

It's natural to still have things we want to spend on (my personal struggle is home décor), but being aware of this is the most important first step. Gradually making changes to your spending habits is much more sustainable in the long term!

@@AuthenticLivingWithEmilie Advice, gosh - I think you're ahead of me tbh, but I'll share some thoughts: 1. When I got into shares a little over a year ago (after an unsuccessful foray long ago, just prior to the GFC), I experienced an inflated sense of urgency about the whole thing, like urgent reflexes to BUY BUY BUY and SELL SELL PANIC-SELL ...before I realised that you have to play the long game. So the dips don't freak me out so much these days, and I no longer do the goldminer's dance every time there's a little jump in the market! Secondly and most dear to me: Ethics. Me and my family (3 of us) were doing ok until a series of unlucky incidents decimated us financially. We encountered a lot of flashy, vulture-like, unethical people in that time, so I've made ethics an absolute priority in my investing. No war profiteering, no eco-destroying ventures, and no investments that profit from widening the gap between rich and poor. My mission is simply to fund a dignified retirement and set up a good passive income stream for junior, who has certain challenges that will make it difficult for them to work much. Anyway that's where I'm at :)
