What was the hurry? Ridiculously fast tempi thoughout, Did they all want to get to the bar afterwards?

There's lots of energy from all involved in this revered classic. The test of a Josephine is in two arpeggios in "Sorry Her Lot":- this Josephine fumbles her first "Love is alive but hope is dead" line but moderately recovers the second time. Then in Act 2 her "The hours creep on apace" is strongly done, and I have never seen a Josephine so spontaneously reveal her glee when Sir Joseph unknowingly promotes his rival's cause. Some attention is needed to bring Sir Joseph's uniform up to British admiral standard because here he resembles more a South American dictator. Captain Corcoran is in splendid voice.

Props to whoever typed 2 hours of captions, I'm not convinced most of G&S' work can be understood without them

Funny how much patriotism is here for Britain while here in Britain you hardly see it. It’s such a shame and shows how corrupt our government and anti-British they truly are. Loved this piece of art from every variation I have seen. Makes me tear up

Thoroughly enjoyable, what a wonderful production. It captures the very essence of a G&S operetta, humour and subtle sarcasm plus great tunes.

The video disappeared for a while, and I know that you gotta do what you gotta do...but this is by far my favorite version of this show so far. Considering I'm over here on the east coast, I appreciate very much that it's back!

I am, thanks to COVID-19 and KZbin, watching one G$S performance a day. I knew from the moment the orchestra struck up that I was in for a treat. As stage manager and designer of a number of production in the UK, it was great to see what is often forgotten, during the overture! BTW a great production in every way.

Just WONDERFUL! So lovely to be able to see this so easily in the comfort of home! And how nice to see something pretty much as it would have been almost 150 years ago in 1878 (no special effects - no computer anything! ) PS - Kudos for the period appropriate clothing such as the dress with a bustle at 21:48.

An excellent production except....The joy of Iolanthe is that it is almost the only G & S that has honorable characters. By changing the Lord Chancellor into a corrupt politician, you spoil the entire thing for me.

Lovely production of a show I directed 'in the round' many years ago. So nice to see Shadbolt's rarely performed song "When jealous torments reach my soul" near the beginning of act one performed with such gusto. The dark atmospheric set and just enough light gave this production real atmosphere akin to a Bruegel painting. Well done all departments.
