We wrote to the park and asked nicely. I think they were confused as to why anybody would be interested in the underside of Thunderlooper!

They did a soft opening of this a few days before and I was lucky enough to get on, we were on the second ever train open to the public. Brilliant memories, thanks for the video.

Surprising how clean and fresh all the rides look, even though some of them were very old even back then they appear to look after them a lot better than they do now. I've never seen a log flume trough so clean, and even the wooden coasters are pristine white!

Superb footage. I recall those cracking views of the Big Dipper and Log Flume from right at the top of the Giant Slide beside the Turtle Chase. Bliss!

Hi Ian, awesome stuff here! So rare to find park videos of this quality from the early 2000's. Excellent camcorder cinematography work :) I'm making a KZbin video series on roller coaster history and was hoping to use portions of this video for clips, specifically your offride footage of Superman Ride of Steel. I would credit your channel in the video and the description. Let me know if that would be alright! Thanks so much and looing forward to checking out the rest of your videos! - John

Hi John, I’m glad you found my old videos interesting! We made these videos for our own amusement back in the day, so it’s nice that they are now finding a wider audience thanks to KZbin. I’d be happy for you to use any footage you like. I shall look forward to seeing your finished video! Thanks again for taking the time to watch my videos and for asking permission for the clips. A lot of people don’t ask! Ian

Just seen this, it really does demonstrate how much better the scenic railway was then, than the facsimile rebuilt version. It was definitely faster (there are mag brakes on it now, even though it still has a brakeman), mind you the scenic railway is currently shut after sustaining some damage recently. This was such a great time for the park, they used to to a combined entry, rail ticket, which from made it really accessible for many teenagers in Kent. I wonder if one of the KZbinrs, that use AI to improve really old films could work wonders with this.

Personally I like that idea of pay to enter because then you get free infinite rides, until closing.

Back when they were pushing boundaries and not building hotels. Many good memories in the 90's coming here as a kid with my family...Beaver creek and the zipper dipper, onto Avalanche and eventually the big one. Simpler times.
