Regardless of how they're actually used, I'm pretty sure they are "sea shell" in design, because that's a popular bathroom decoration design to begin with. Didn't your grandmother ever have a basket of decorative soaps sitting on the sink or the tank of the toilet? They may have even had flower-shaped "controls" at one time, and over the years, the sea shell design just became the standard. 🤷‍♂

I find it EXTREMELY weird that you call saved data "save states" as.... save states are fairly different from save data. Save states usually being found in emulators.
