Good reaction! I had never been more upset about a character dying in a show. Probably one of the best endings to an anime I had ever watched.

I get a little choked up when Serie talks about Flamme as a child, and humans in general. When she explains how they exist so much closer to death than elves and how their progress will accelerate and overtake them, it really shows a similarity with how humans can be with their time. If you have a nearly infinite lifespan, not only can you procrastinate but you would likely struggle to find motivation to do anything. Elves are blessed with time, but their race has grown so stagnant and complacent, not even any real desire to procreate since they lack romantic feelings and reproductive instincts (as mentioned in ep.6). Humans can be that way, but we are forced to act since we are basically slaves to time. What hits me harder is when Frieren says she can't wait for it to happen, to see so many new mages and spells, knowing that elves would likely lose the racial race, yet still wanting to be there to see it happen. It really reminds me of the song "Lateralus" by TOOL, embracing the randomness of the universe, not over-thinking everything, and just accepting what may come.

One quick note for the next episode: Thorfinn became a slave because of him attacking Canute at the end of season one. They never explain it and is in the 22nd episode when they drop a dialogue about it, but is not explanatory at all
