Mahalo for sharing this, lived in Leilani Estates on Moku Street for 10 years and left a couple of years before the lava flow. I was hesitant to view your video as Pohoiki for me was my sanctuary. I’m thrilled to see it was not totally destroyed. I am comparing my photos from then and yours now and it’s just different - but not gone - which is most important. More than anything I hope to return someday and make new memories, but I am no longer on the Big Island. Your aerial views were spectacular, nice and slow so easy to watch. Thank you again, I look forward to more.

Saw tons of these cuties when I was in Kauai last October. We even saw a little Nene family with their goslings at a park in Hanalei. They really seem to be thriving in Kauai, considering there were only 30 of them in existence (anywhere on earth) back in the 50’s. Love these birds. They’re a lot more chill than their larger cousins on the mainland.

We are the same people, we as Maaori come from Hawai'i , I remember flying a man in Aotearoa from Akl to Chc, back when i was 24 years old. We chatted briefly, as i was serving Customers, But i was drawn to him, and he said to me "you look Hawaiian" i took that as a compliment ❤ I had passed through Hawaii on my way to Canada at 21. Wanted to stay, but was going Snowboarding as a 21st pressie. But felt the same passing through Fiji. Just wanted to abandon the next flight. Get off and hang ten. The CALL OF THE PACIFIC ISLANDS OUR CULTURE OUR PRESERVATION OF OUR RIGHTS. WE STAND IN OUR MANA. WE STAND TOGETHER. OUR RIGHTS ARE NOT TO BE MESSED WITH. I definitely noticed that when I was in Kauai. I live in Washington state, and the geese up here are very different in temperament from the Nene we encountered in Kauai. Larger too, and make a different sound. Nene be like “Mahalo”. They’re just happy to be living in paradise.

Just watching this for the first time, wow, so cool. It really helps me get my head around how the lava came to the sea, sparing some areas, and creating new land on others. The drone footage was awesome, and so was the ground-level footage. Mahalo for taking us along your adventure. Look forward to watching more of your journeys. Sending aloha from Santa Monica, California.

Apparently from what I heard that road was only a temporary access road to houses in that area and Pohoiki and they are going to make this road a permanent section along with bulldozing and realigning Pohoiki, restoring the rest of Highway 137, the part of the Kumukahi Lighthouse Road that was inundated (yay, new four corners) and bulldozing Leilani Avenue to Kahukai Street (I don't know if they are going to restore the full length of Leilani Avenue and I don't think they are going to restore Lanipuna Gardens)

I remember when I first found these videos, about a year ago, and being from long island NY I was blown away by what I saw. Now being in heavy construction here in NYC I also love watching the machines (D9's, D475 D10's etc) working their way through this abrasive material. But there's something very soothing, relaxing, calming even by letting the video take you on this journey of a visible buffet of nature

I sat next to a family of Nene and started taking pictures and filming them at queen Lili uokalani Park in Hilo. A lady walked by with a small dog and the male nene ran, spread out it's wings, and hissed at the dog and scared the crap out of it.
