Michael, ( i live in TC Mi.) I've got a little hint if you want to deal with your squirrel problem. Onece you've removed your roomie go to the proper store get a bottle of fox pee and squirt/spray it on certain locations around the outside of the house ( small vermin don't like foxes) and that should keep them away for a while. When you see the squirrels start getting closer to the house, give it a squirt again. I suggest you do it for about a year or so till the critters aren't attracted to the inside of your house. Also, maybe have someone find where it's getting in and patch that up.

You’ve got to block up the holes where they’re getting in - wire wool works well - they don’t like metal. I opened the loft hatch one day & one fell out onto the landing. Took me 10 minutes to get it out of the house. Good luck. 💙💚☘️
