Well they're went your reputation you were trying to save or something like that, nobody cared about your boats reputation sorry Appears people cared more about the real lives that were lost on that boat then the boat I mean that thing could hit the bottom any boat can hit the bottom and care about the people on the boat actually the boat couldn't passed by as a memory we wouldn't even missed the boat We are only missing the people that were on the boat so Perini Navi New saying is "We care more about the reputation of our boats than the people that use them"

I own a Contest 38s. Before I bought her I was unfamiliar with the make. But once I stepped aboard the quality of the build was apparent. Now nearly 2 years later I am even more impressed with the quality of construction and the quality of the materials they used. This vessel is a bit bigger than mine and the extra space looks great. My boat came direct from Holland and I had to re-fit an American electrical system, which was neither easy or inexpensive to do. However, it appears from the video that this boat is already so wired. At 88k this is a steal. She will carry you far, fast and in safety. The age does not matter when the quality is there.

There is a You tube video elsewhere, where a previous captain explained the known design flaws of the boat. The manufacturers warned of exceeding a heel angle of 45 degrees, and it would flood and sink. The drop keel was meant to only be raised with no sail on in harbour. It was an expensive Gin Palace, not an Ocean Crossing yacht. When I was looking for an Ocean going yacht, I did a lot of design features on many different makes of boat, and the get out was to sell the boat unfinished, so that the finisher was then liable for faults, nasty.

Gee, I want to buy my yacht from Italian Sea Group. I really like the way they instantly blame the crew and owner's for their design flaws that were unfortunately exposed by a severe weather event. I really hope they also blame the customer for any warranty work too like camper and motorhome builders do! Plus, the CEO said their boat was unsinkable and that seems like a pretty handy thing out in the middle of the ocean. So clearly the Bayesian had to sink due to the folks running it were utter morons. Speaking of stupid, I wonder how long the ISG CEO will stay in his position after his genius handling of this incident. If the ISG is going to sue somebody for damaging their reputation, it's the CEO they should be suing!

They’ll probably never sell another yacht. It doesn’t take a genius to see suing the widow, who just lost her husband and daughter, isn’t the best move if you’re concerned about reputation.

Finally, someone else is talking about the anchor; well at least saying that the Bayesian sunk while at anchor! The anchor and chain of a ship is designed to hold the bow of the ship into the wind during a storm so, when the ship was first blown around, did the anchor foul Somewhere under her, then came tight on the chain and flip her? There needs to be a full mapping of the anchor.
@q.e.d.91123 ай бұрын
That has been explained. The AIS tracks the boat’s heading from the main gyro compass. If this is turned off then displays assume that her heading is the same as her track which is computed from the, AIS incorporated, GNSS. So ‘Bayesian’ was probably head to wind while dragging her anchor, not doing that mad dance displayed on the AIS screens. The ‘Sir R.B-P’ had her compass running and it’s clear that she was riding pretty much head to wind. Mind you, the size of that mast might have made ‘Bayesian’ much more lively. The two vessels are so dissimilar that any comparison is pretty futile, and microbursts, like tornadoes, are so localised that total destruction can happen within 50 metres of places that are untouched.

Your wonderful technical explanation points mainly to technical, nautical and meteorological issues. I am listening very interested and learn new things every day. However: Just like I dont believe in three sailors and a rented boat beeing responsible for bombing a transcontinental gas pipeline, I also dont believe in any of those stories regarding the Bayesian. In the end, the victorious party of a very surprising billion dollar lawsuit outcome in the US have been all killed. Without exception. Be it during a morning run, be it in the middle of the night near Palermo on a yacht. My explanation would be: Can someone influence the wheather? Possibly by using military machinery or with the help of chemicals? Could someone possibly direct a submarine under this boat and lift it up sideways or tow the anchor chain down? Because if you ask: Qui bono? - the answer is very clear. I dont believe in conspiracy, but I also dont believe in coincidence

That leads down to the galley/crew quarters. What the photos don’t show are the two large doors leading directly into the main saloon, both well away from the centreline and either, in my estimation - I’ve sailed yachts for over 60 years - would almost certainly be below the waterline if the yacht was laid flat on her side. It wouldn’t occur to even the most prudent seaman that these should be secured, while at anchor off a weather shore. In fact, it would hinder quick evacuation in the event of a far more likely danger: fire. There’s a thing called stress of weather and I think that this vessel met conditions that treated a 473 ton ship like a 5 ton yacht. But a 5 ton yacht is sealed up like a bottle and can spring back upright in seconds, while the 473 ton ship, with its vast indoor/outdoor well-deck leading directly to a stairway down to the accommodations, can’t. Once over beyond 73° she will lie on her side and simply fill. And, since that stairway comes up to starboard of the c/l, it would probably have been even quicker than if she’d gone over to Port. Poring over her deck plans and photos I think she would have filled and sunk in a very short time, perhaps as short as a minute or two.

@@q.e.d.9112 how about this 50T retractable keel? Does it not affect the center of Gravity 🤣
@q.e.d.91123 ай бұрын
@@BTCxyz369 Yes it does. When it’s down she can (theoretically) recover from an 87° angle. If it’s up, she’ll capsize once she reaches 73°. However, the builder’s ship management documents state it should be up when at anchor. The noise problem is common to pretty much every centreboard yacht. TBH, nobody thought this big powerful vessel could be capsized by the wind, when at anchor. In strong winds yachts at anchor invariably lie head to wind. It would take a rapid shift in wind direction coupled with hurricane force to cause her to lay over at 73°. If the wind shifts direction by 90° over a period of minutes the yacht simply swings on her cable to continue facing the wind but if it happens in seconds, then she could be caught on her beam. Those angles of “no-return” are theoretical and I’d bet good money they assume a dry ship. Any flooding will rapidly reduce them. Since she starts down flooding at 45° and, once her rail goes under, it will be rapid flooding into her main deck area, she may have reached her point of no return earlier than that theoretical 73°.

I have never liked drop-keels on big boats. On sailing dinghies, they are fine. Barely acceptable on small sailing cruisers. But unacceptable on any boat more than 30 feet in length. The Bayesian should have had a ‘long’ keel.

I have felt for some time, that many designers/builders of Luxury Yachts, whether Sailing or Motor, are more concerned with stylish design and opulent "boastful" features, than actual "sea-worthiness".. Apparently in the last minutes as the yacht heeled severely before actually sinking, there are stories of furniture, crockery and glassware being flung about ad lib.. I'd want furniture more fixed and necessary loose items, such as crockery and glassware securely stored..
