Yikes. Anyone who says they are demure isn't actually demure. Defeats the purpose. Just like when people say they are smart

Guys everyone has an accent. It’s ok. Don’t worry about it too much. Just don’t speak before you’re ready to speak and you won’t develop poor pronunciation. But even if you do it’s fine

i would interpret this as being because when asking the first style of questions, you're guessing the state of the other person, and raising the inflection implies it's a friendlier tone. compare this with the second style of questioning; now the question is assuming nothing of the state of the other person, and by not raising the intonation, you imply to the other person that the question itself is not as important as their answer, which comes off more polite. I'm not sure if this makes a whole lot of sense, I'm not American but i am a native speaker and this is how it felt to me

I thought the people who use that "J" sound was just lazy. I try real hard not to use that sound, and now you're telling people to do it?

And for casual speech, you can say “ya” instead of “you!” It’s still pronounced with that “j” sound. 😊

This is extremely dialect dependent. Where I'm from, Massachusetts, you're far more likely to hear us drop the "D" sound off. We sound something like, "Woo-yah" for "Would you." I think parts of the American south do this, too. We do sometimes do this "J" thing, too, though. It really depends on how quickly we are speaking. We speak fairly quickly in New England. The speed that is used in the show Gilmore Girls is pretty common here. They aren't using our dialect otherwise, but they do use our speed.

There is a competitive eater called Adam (Beard Meats Food (yes, meats not meets)) and when he goes to the USA he says his name, Adam, and then Americans go "sorry, what?" and then he goes Eaaaaeaaeaaaaduuum" and then they understand him. Don't teach yourself an American accent, let the Americans learn English first.

I don't think this is specific to American pronunciation. What's really difficult for students to master are its minimal pairs of vowels, for instance: bat / bet bot / but

@finalcountdown3210 Ай бұрын
Say the "shhh" sound. Then do it again but add voice to it. That's the difference. "Feather" and "the" have the vocal addition to the sound. Whereas "tooth" or "three" don't have that voiced sound.
