My daughter (also named Samantha) and sister are on this same hike right now and should be doing day 5 when they wake up. These videos are so great. I feel like I can experience this along with them on some small level. Thank you so much!

Hi, Sam! I’m just now coming across your channel and this post. If I may, I want to say 2 things: 1) thank you so very much for your incredible post. It’s very helpful to me in my planning my upcoming CF. And 2), you (and this vid) are an amazing example of how the Camino provides. I attempted to do my first Camino two years ago but never got further than SJPdP… the night before my departure, I received word my dad had died and I immediately returned home. On that attempt I had not done a great deal of research on accommodation. This trip was different… I’ve lately been scouring YT and other sources for recommendations on places to stay (with limited success.) This morning you magically popped up in my YT feed and this video was an incredible gift! I am so grateful. And now a question regarding the Donativo you shared. I’m 67 yo, and I’m wondering about sleeping on mats. Were the mats sufficient to provide a good night’s sleep? A silly question perhaps, but at my age it’s a concern! Any feedback would be appreciated as I would truly like an experience like yours, but not at the expense of my back! Apologies for the long comment, but thank you in advance. Buen Camino!

Well hello!!! What a lovely comment to receive ❤️ firstly, let me offer my sincere condolences on the passing of your father. I lost mine last year and know what that feels like. Secondly, your kind words have touched me! I must return for a “tune-up” on the Camino. It’s been nearly five years. Craziness. And now to your question-I think you will sleep just fine. Are the mats super comfy? No. But it’s a trade off for all the other spiritual gifts that place offers. My friend John slept there that night. He was 65 at the time and reported a fine “enough” sleep. I HIGHLY recommend you do not miss this donativo. The most special place of all my stays. Buen Camino to you!

Thank you for this video and for being so open, honest and vulnerable. Looking for a different path-YES! However my family situation is keeping me tied down and I am unable to travel where I once used to travel solo annually pre-COVID. I feel like my adventurous spirit is dying since I haven’t flexed those muscles in a very, very long time. Everything you said truly spoke to me; I also have that same poster (“This is your life”) in my room! The time will come when I’ll be able to strike out on my own, but for now, life is what it is for which I’m definitely grateful. Thank you so much! ❤

Hi Sarah! I simply love what you shared here. Wow! We have the same poster!! A friend of mine gave me a greeting card with the manifesto on it and I knew I needed to put it on my office wall. That was 2014. (How the heck did all that manage to seep into my nervous system... so much that I actually listened to it lol!??) I hear what you're saying with being tied down by family situation. Family will always, always come first. I recently lost my dad and just prior to all that, everything ground to a halt. Nothing else mattered. I'd give anything to have more time with him, including all the travel in the world. But life will find a way to get you onto your new path... I just know it! It seems to me that everything is timed to be at the moment when we can handle it. I could go on and on, I'm just really happy that someone out there resonated with what I had to say. Huge hugs from my little desk in Canada to wherever you are in the world.

Hi Michael, this new path I'm on is... exciting and challenging and not easy and rewarding. Hahaha. If only I knew how it was all going to work out. Would I want to know? I'm not sure.... The mystery of life endures! I appreciate you watching this. Please know that if you have the passion and the idea and even just a kernel of support from people around you, you CAN strike a new path.

Hi Sam, I did the climb last week and firstly congratulations on achieving the climb. The feelings echoed my whole experience as well. The spirit of my mum was with me the whole way, just encouraging me to put one foot in front of the other, the fact that I was also 1 ht behind my group, my lead James and second lead Alex stayed with me to make it encouraging me all the way with positive vibes. also the same sense of elation felt after first reaching Stella then the march to Uhuru. As i was one of the last to summit we were able to linger for ages and i even had time to try and phone my wife. Unbelievable feelings. I saw my group coming down when i was going up and they cheered me on. Then the descent and the lovely tipping ceremony. I was elected to make the speech to the men and women who made it all possible. The quote from Kerouac sums it all up. Sitting here watching such an emotional and beautiful video and work looming next week, none of it seems to matter. We climbed that mountain! Thank you and god bless you
@SamanthaPlavins Жыл бұрын
Eddie! Oh my goodness! We shared SUCH a similar experience, right down to being one of the last to summit.... and your mum silently encouraging you. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful recollection. I can imagine this week back at work has been tough. (Re-entry usually is!) In some respects, I found Kili to be a bubble I'd like to live in forever. No dinging of my phone. No-one pulling my sleeve. Just being one with nature. Congratulations on your climb! And I hope work has been gentle with you. Really appreciate your share here, and the kind words.
@eddiealexander5276 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for replying, I really wasn't expecting that. As a substitute teacher( I retired last year) I know all about someone tugging my sleeve for attention😃. Kids are such great listeners, and even if one has been inspired this week to do something like climb Kili, then my work and journey continues and hasn't ended with the Uhuru summit. I'm hoping to go back to Tanzania soon though not to climb again but hopefully in an education capacity. I feel I need to put something back into the country and people who are so special to me. God bless you again and keep on the journey xx@@SamanthaPlavins
