When using scrap copper avoid getting solder into your batch, some solders contain lead.

I would point out that in small amounts iron oxide and copper oxide won't do you much damage. The human body already uses iron and a little copper so the body has some defences against these substances. Clay dust in the air is really bad for your lungs as the body has no way to disassemble an alumino-sillicate particle so silicosis is a permanent condition.

You didn't specify the proportions of a single recipe for glaze... is that book so barren that a single recipe being leaked diminishes so much it's value that you decided against publishing the proportions on you ad-ridden youtube video? You really are trying to make me watch adds to see your shitty infomercial. PD: You made a point of it being "eco-friendly"... on a forever item, a clay pot... I do not care if my pots are "eco-friendly" when they are supposed to last decades. They are not paper towels, they are chemically and mechanically stable items that won't leak any toxic materials. FFS nuclear waste is melted with ceramics to make it more chemically stable. I do not remember the name of the book, and I'm glad I don't.

Do you have a video or more info on how much you blend up the paper etc…? And a video on using a makeup brush to remove excess slip to prevent drips?

Do you have any videos on how you brush out the slip? My porcelain ones still get thicker on one side from the dripping. I almost need some table that turns and undulates so it drips out evenly.

You are talking about how this is more environmental friendly because you use recykled metal, but then you say you get the coppar from the charity shop and pay more than they would get from recykling. So the gain for the environment isn’t there unless you save the metal from the dump or from being left in nature.

As a beginner, new to your channel, I experienced working with clay some time ago. I had some wonderful success with shino glaze, on thrown porcelain, the glaze of which was not of my own creation, fired in a gas kiln. I found it's variation and lack of predictablility, in reduction, joyously fascinating. I'm thinking it was incorporating elements from other glazes released into the kiln atmosphere at temperature, even vaguely in instances, reminding me of raku effects. Does shino, in your expert experience, qualify as eco conscious as well as suitable for firing in an electric kin at stoneware temperatures? Or am I on the wrong track?

I think the reason the glass is "crazed" or broken, is because its thermal exlansion coëfficient is higher. The melting point of silica is lowered with sodium/Na or potassium/K, that is the most common glass we know. But heat resistant glass that is not tempered (labratory glass) is made with a borium/B addition. Borium glass has way lower expansion when heated. Which is why is fire proof/resistant to uneven heating. Try Borium glass for less crazed an chippy glaze.

Great name. Super clear in practical manner. But i don't think that there is such a thing as a "clay molecule" that is the clay. Because its a mixture of chemically different particles. The way i believe it to be is that the alumina remains firm and keeps the pottery shape while the silica melts and "glues" the alumina latice together. The feldspar aluminasilicate is the flux. This improves adhesion between alumina and the melting silica. Are my believes correct? Yours.

This is so useful! I'm a very new potter and have some white stoneware clay which I've made some mugs/bowls out of, yet to be bisque fired... As part of a bundle with my wheel and electric kiln I was given a selection of Mayco Stroke & Coat glazes which state they should be fired at cone 06. I gather this is much lower than a stoneware glaze firing should be - can I use these glazes on my stoneware clay and what temperature/kiln schedule should I use if so? I'm keen for it all to definitely be food safe and the colours to come out nice and strong! If I can't use them I'll set the glazes aside for the future when I want to experiment with a lower-fire clay, and use an appropriate stoneware glaze instead, but would love to use the colours if possible.

Yes, mix it carefully with baking soda, taking care because it will fizz all over the carpet. This makes copper carbonate powder which sinks to the bottom after a while.
