Are the pests a problem over the whole country?
@raneewebb5567
@raneewebb5567 Жыл бұрын
Some of these pests are all over the whole country. There are new invasives that happen too. In parts of the East Coast and now in parts of the Pacific Northwest a new dangerous pest called the Houdini fly is very worrisome. Cleaning helps ensure that less pests are in left behind and helps increase survival rates. A newer recommendation is that we suggest adding a drop or two of detergent (such as Dawn) to your bleach wash. Bleach kills the fungus-Chalkbrood. Mites can float on the surface but adding the detergent the mites drown. I just found your question. sorry for the delay.

This is my first time. I live in Ontario, Canada. Our second half of April was unseasonably cold. I took the cocoons out of the fridge on May 5. My Blue Orchard Mason Bees emerged shortly after. How soon should I expect the females to come back to the bee house to lay their eggs? It's now May 29 and there is still no action at the bee house.

Sorry, for the delay. I just found your question. When the temps are in the 50s the bees do take time to emerge. It is more likely they will emerge more quickly when the temps are in the 60s or above. I hope you saw bees come out. Having lots of plants blooming for them is the most important thing. They need to get pollen from 500-800 flowers to make a pollen ball, so they need lots of blooms. Some newer info: Some pests are all over. There are new invasives that happen too. Thanks for your reply. Better late than never. I am planting more and more perennial flowers that bloom in early spring. This year I had more bumblebees than ever before. So I believe that planting the early spring flowers made a difference. Thanks to the increased number of bumblebees, I had the best harvest of blueberries. I will give the mason bees one more try next spring.

IT GENERALLY NEVER RAINS IN THE FALL, WINTER OR SPRING HERE. IT ONLY RAIN ONE HOUR FOR ONE DAY. THEN IT MAY NOT RAIN AGAIN FOR A YEAR. OR IT MAY RAIN ANOTHER HOUR 3 WEEKS AFTER. AND THAT MAYBE IT. OR IT RAIN ANOTHER HOUR 2 WEEKS LATER. IM SO SICK OF THESE FAKE BS 40 INCHES A YEAR WHY WOULD ANYONE WATER CROPS?

When you say Maxifort is vegetative and that it will grow a bigger plant, does that mean higher yield as well because there is no point in a bigger plant if the yield isn't that much bigger.

@@ChefNutter well I had friend give me a couple of annual flowering plants and I noticed a very small patch on one of them about the size of a pinky finger nail, I immediately started to use bacillus subtilis as a inoculant by adding it to water and spreading it on the soil line, I also sprayed with a baking soda with a drop of olive oil and a drop of detergent mix all over the plants and it worked, you do need to use the bacillus subtilis every week though it’s not just a one time thing, also spray with the baking soda mix about three times a week and as long as your environment is good you should be golden.

I can't believe your "research" turned up very little information about dry farming. Did you not think to look into countries like India and other third world nations where they have been forced to dry farm because they have not been able to access water except during the "monsoon" season who have been dry farming for ages because they haven't been able to irrigate there?

@@californiausa7321 So true! I immediately watched videos about how Hopi farmers farm(ed) after making that comment(for further confirmation) and the video showed them actually planting seeds without any water! Evidently what they do is plant the seeds much deeper in the soil where it is more damp... and they plant multiple seeds at a time in case some don't germinate. They also don't plant where they expect drops to grown too close together so plants won't have to compete for nutrients in the soil. There need to be more people like you in the world who aren't afraid to call a spade a spade.

Why need to harvest cocoons? Can't it get out naturally ?
@tonym1701
@tonym1701 2 жыл бұрын
It’s my understanding that you greatly improve odds of survival by harvesting.
@raneewebb5567
@raneewebb5567 2 жыл бұрын
You are right that they will get our naturally, but ... In nature about 30% of the cocoons survive. When we harvest the cocoons and store them in a constant temperature away from predators, we can get about a 90% survival rate. (I just saw this question and had been out of the country for about 5 weeks).

Dry farm lettuce is very easy. Water one time with a jug or irrigation source. Cover with a milk jug to retain moisture like it's own greenhouse and protect from direct sunlight. Uncover for final 1-2 weeks and harvest. Works great. Heat tolerance variety is the key.

I put my tomatoes out on full sunlight after 1 week in healing chamber inside my house. Within 1 hour the plants bent down and died. Was it because of the shock situation? They had good amount of light inside so the next step was to introduce them to sun outside...

irrigation+rainfall = evaporation + transpiration + runoff + leaching Which one of these processes do Farmers really have control over during the growing season? If you have the ability to irrigate your sandy soils and water is cheap and plentiful, then you are fortunate and have some control on the left side of the equation. If you do not have irrigation, you must look at the factors on the right side of the equation to see what can be controlled or minimized to benefit your crop. Evaporation from the soil surface can be reduced with mulch or leaving crop residue on the soil surface. Transpiration is a function of the plant leaf surface area and the weather. Runoff is or should be minimal in sandy textured soils with high percolation rates. This leaves the leaching of water out of the root zone as the #1 controllable loss of moisture to your crop. Interrupting the downward movement of moisture in your soil by installing a "smart" barrier can greatly reduce the leaching of water and nutrients. SWRT subsurface membranes detain/retain up to 90% of irrigation or rainfall in the root zone for crop use by disrupting the gravitational movement of water in the soil while still allowing excess water to percolate and do not create anaerobic soil conditions.

I think it is important to keep the causes of drought and pollution in perspecrive Obviously these worms provide nutriebns to the soil in many climates even though they are not native, I find ir much more disturbing theat the effects of logging and mininf which pollute and cause runoff as well as the dangerous effexts of mass monocrop agriculture and the insane ampont of water pillution created in the fertiler industry As important as "the stakeholders" are and (boy has that term pepped up recently in every gobermental agwncy and plan) Acid eain is not paer of a natural process Rhe mercury problem , I hope to see axtual data about the negative effects of this species on other species and on the environment. I just hope the main reason for the life ending pollution is addressed or it may be up to these worms to solve it as they seem to be more able to keep pace woth industry part of the plavemenrt of tocix xhemicals in the biological vs elemental cyxle
