Wow! Had this trio been marketed to the level that the Pat Metheny bands were this band would have been super successful in the jazz fusion world. These musicians likely thought something like, "Let's play for these Aebersold Jazz Camp students and go to our hotel."

Joe slaying as usual!!!!! Love hearing Joe play with great guitarists, his playing on So Near So Far with John Scofield is some of my favorite saxophone playing of the 90’s!

I think I was in Erq's combo the next year ... he was a great teacher and I remember how he taught us guitarist the import of playing 4 note voicings for chords, and how to move them around the neck ...I still have his cassette DEMO and the invaluable chord booklet - one of the best guitarists I've ever studied with and let me say I went on to attend Bellarmine College and got to attend clinics with some of the best Jazz Guitarists of all time ... Howard Roberts, Jim Hall, Tal Farlow etc. ... I was blessed to have been part of the crew to hang out with them outside formal study , etc. ... dinner, stories and jokes - Steve Erquiaga IS a incredible talent and educator - THANKS STEVE !!!!

The year 1983 seems to be wrong. I saw the same band playing this music on 31 March 1977 at the Domicile in Munich. More videos of the same band in the same place, all from March 1977: kzbin.info/www/bejne/horKgYlugbpofas (Part 1 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYamYppsdtabl9E (Part 2 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mp6Uiayqm79gpJY (Part 3 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGbIpZV5rdeEhrs (Part 4 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKjFYYurotOBb5I (Part 5 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX3QYmmqZ7-LpcU (Part 6 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2aXhn58nr-Jo8k (Part 7 of 8) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqawlGuqbreombM (Part 8 of 8)

This should not have less than 4k views. Ed Soph is basically playing the past, present, and future of drumming at the same time. Woah. Everyone else is killing, but I'm a drummer soooo

Ed is killing it here. His dynamics are especially masterful. Playing parts similar to what he's playing, at that tempo, with conviction, yet not overwhelming the other two players, is an art unto itself.

That chord progression was created to be a challenge; both Joe and Steve Erquiaga are playing repetitive figures, as the harmonic movement is limited. I can see your point that it's okay-ish (not my favorite tune for soloing); I can tell you that Joe Henderson is a fantastic musician; I love his playing. Check out "Joshua" with Scofield.

As far as I'm concerned, Joe Henderson and Joe Farrell ruled the world after Coltrane and before Brecker. You can always expect quality from those guys.
