The sound is like Marcus Miller "Papa rolling stones"
@girmaybass686 күн бұрын
Interesting! That bass is fretted, the one I used is fretless. Must be the sound set up on my amp, I guess. And thank you, btw I did not know Marcus Miller played that bass line! What a simple yet powerful bass line Marcus played that we still listen to it today, never gets old!
I saw this clip before and thought Marcus was playing someone else's line. I have heard this music before, never new who played the bass, until you mentioned his name, then Googled the original track but only see the hands, not full view of bass player. When I searched "who played bass ... papa...", Marcus is mentioned on this 2015 portion, not on the original Temptations release. I saw other names come up. Either way this is a really powerful bass line with lots of spaces and never gets old or boring even today.

I love this song very much. But I usually listen to it for its incredible bass. Thank you for playing this Girmay. Playing this is on my bucket list but unfortunately I only have a 4 string at the moment.
@girmaybass6817 күн бұрын
Thank you! You can still try to play it on 4 string - on parts that require the low B string, play octave higher - may not sound the same but do not let lack of 5 string bass stop you, Belay.

Hi @girmaybass68, We enjoy watching your covers. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us and for sharing beautiful tunes. Do you have a Q&A platform so we can ask you for credits of some albums?
@girmaybass682 ай бұрын
I do not but that sounds a good idea. I do have community page but not sure how I can make Q&A platform there but I will look into it. Though I have had this channel for seven years now, I still have a lot to learn. Thank you for the supportive comments. I am also learning a lot as I practice and put out covers.
@auntiesarah2 ай бұрын
Appreciate the response! Ethiopian albums often lack detailed credits and you do a good job of noting who played the bass on the songs you cover. I'm looking for a platform that would list the music players than just the singer and arranger. Looking forward to what you might come up with ;) As a start, I'm interested to know who plays bass on Aster Aweke's Ewedehalehu and Shewandagn Hailu's Siq Alegn albums. Would you happen to know those please? Thanks!
@girmaybass682 ай бұрын
@auntiesarah A lot of the covers I did so far happened to be albums I knew for many years, as I used to buy original cassettes, CDs in the 90s, 2000s but I have not had any since then but I remember some from memory but these songs you mentioned I have no idea. I know a lot who follow my channel have great input and sometimes have corrected me when I get bass player names mixed up (specially on albums with two bass players). So hope someone looks at your question and responds. Another idea will be to google it, sometimes albums maybe listed on Amazon, with some details of the album.

@@girmaybass68, thank you. Tried googling etc but to no avail. Thought I'd ask you in case you knew. Hope someone picks up on these chats and jumps in. Really appreciate your response and the work you do. Cheers

This music was played by Roha Band in their last days. It has a sound quality unlike any of their other works, and the composition of this album features the famous Mulatu Astatike. I always have a lot of respect and admiration for you because you played this wonderful song about how the bass guitar part was.
@girmaybass682 ай бұрын
I didn't realize this was their last album. I heard the full album in 1992 when released and I can tell Giovanni sound different in some songs. Also I had the chance to play with Tewodros and Bezawork that same year in a concert hall as both singers were sponsored by local restaurant owner Belete Shiferaw (Kokeb restaurant - closed years ago). I was new bass player (less than 2 years) at that time, nervous, but turned out OK. I never had another chance to play with Teddy again but Bezawork was an almost regular at various restaurants around Seattle. Though I heard this song many times, I was surprised when I was learning the bass parts and found little details I did not pay attention to before! Thank you Semere

@@girmaybass68 Off course it's not their last performance but I think after one or two years They disbanded after around 250 releases in 1993(1985 E. C.)
