I wish movies were still shown on Network Television. I mean, that's what made Summers the best was gettin ready to watch a favorite movie, even if you already owned a copy, it was still worth watching and for the added cut scenes which networks had to pay tons to acquire from the studio, also worth premiering a good movie cause it's Summer hiatus and all they show otherwise are reruns of TV series. I really miss it.i also recall on one of the many times Superman 3 was shown on TBS, all additional footage was present, but one showing actually had the slapstick credits and not traditional space ones!

I admire her and Alison Lohman for retiring to help their husband's raise their children. They could have sacrificed their marriages for their careers, like J.Lo, but didn't.

To TheLoon: Congratulations, and I sincerely thank you for your superb recreation of the original U.S. close of this poignant masterpiece. I'm the "first-generation fan" who wrote the 2004 Video Watchdog magazine article on the history of Paramount's cuts and flawed restorations of WEST in America. Here, unsolicited, are three minor adjustments to nudge your effort even more effectively to the original. 1) While it's beautiful to see again the film title properly descend into the screen from above the frame without that annoying "spin," I believe the 1969 entry point was about two or three seconds earlier. 2) The film's 1969 logo contained just the Paramount/Gulf+Western signage without "The End" (especially that one from earlier in the '60s). 3) I recommend opening with Harmonica's close-up before he hears the distant train whistle... let us all have Morricone's sublime finale intact, instead of joining it brusquely in progress. Perfection is within reach for you!

Thank you so much Mr. Lloyd! Your article was a huge help and inspiration in making this video. I will indeed make those adjustments you kindly suggested for the next attempt. Many thanks again and delighted you happened upon the video :)

@@TheLoon YoungLoon, learning that my article helped motivate you toward your reconstruction makes me even happier that I wrote it, and that Video Watchdog publisher Tim Lucas (a terrific editor and critic himself) was willing to publish it. But let me offer you a better explanation for replacing that end logo. It's more than a question of period accuracy. The 1960s were a transitional period when more films and directors were abandoning a "The End" title as redundant. As for the logo you used, I think that particular font had closed Paramount releases as far back as DUCK SOUP in 1933; and I recoiled at the sight of it on your WEST reconstruction with an instant association with Paramount comedies from my youth in the '60s. As WEST was Leone's fifth feature but his first (in American prints, anyway) not to display a "The End" title, maybe the director himself wanted to avoid that jovial studio font at the end of his first tragedy. Anyway, I assure you that the closing logo on the1969 first-release U.S. prints of WEST faded in from black straight to the Paramount/Gulf+Western logo, then back out to black with exit music continuing. After the studio re-cut, the original logo on each print was swapped for one with no track. Among the Paramount titles I have here on discs, THE PARALLAX VIEW is the first I checked that has the appropriate Gulf+Western logo with blue sky and moving clouds, and without the later dissolve to blue graphic. May you find that convenient! If it's not available, check the studio's other Panavision or Techniscope titles from 1969-74 for a source. With my disappointment of the 2011 WEST Blu-ray, I had figured that the ending of the Italian DVD -- musically correct, no more American spinning title, but Cheyenne's closing theme over end credits instead of black screen -- was the best compromise for this original ending that I'd ever experience again. I thank you again for your wonderful result. I had so many friends who never got to see or hear the real thing for themselves.
