The form of this tune is a blues. This blows my mind, I have no understanding whatsoever of what he is actually playing and how it relates to blues changes. My jaw hits the floor every time I watch this video.

Lyle's solo in this is so mind-boggling amazing, I am floored by it every time I watch this, it's like Keith Jarret but with perfectly exacting precision, he's simply one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time

This composition has earned a place high on my list of too many to name Pat Metheny masterpeices. I like turning it on when I start to work on intricate projects at work. The entire Map of the World soundtrack is very provocative and soothing to my psyche. PMG, Pat Metheny or any other name that Pat associates his music with is always something that I will try. He is simply the BEST🙂

There are moments in a concert that are pure magic. Those moments, as short and fleeting as they can be, are worth the price of admission. This is one of those magical moments. Pat and Lyle are one of the great musical duos in history! 🙏🏻

I’ve stood on stage with Elton John and was acknowledged by Paul McCartney. But the best concert I ever went to in my life was the Pat Metheny Group in the fall of 1986 at Memorial Hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a pianist I marveled at Lyle Mays, then went to earn a Master’s degree in jazz studies at Indiana University. Lyle remains in this world through both his art and inspiration.
