Someone should just make a non reflective solution for post purchase. If the watch company can’t get it right, why lose out on a great watch because of that? Imagine a cream of polish you can put as an anti glare layer? I mean is it so hard to make? If you read this and do, I want cash in form of royalties lol

Yes, too much money for what you get with the Explorer. I had my heart set on a Tudor Ranger, but then I saw a YT video on the Sinn 556A RS. So that is what I went with. Love it. I have an Aqua Terra which is more dressy so the Sinn fills the tool watch side of things.

Nice review! A great looking watch for sure. I think the size, simplicity and lack of complications make it so compelling. Maybe I should get one someday... But for now I am very happy with my Black Bay 36, which is absolutely awesome. I don't know if the Rolex is worth the premium and I am seriously put off by the waiting list game (I am very imapatient - I even leave a supermarket when there are too many people 😂).
@mowatches26 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for your amazing comment, I appreciate your perspective! It really is an incredible watch, but if you are genuinely happy with your BB36, I don’t think you need to get the Explorer - they are just too close and I am pretty sure only watch nerds like us would see the difference anyways 😂. Or you just put yourself on that list and whenever you get the call you can see where life took you and how you will decide then. Btw, I also thought a lot about the BB36 first, but that was a tad too close to my BB58, which is why I went for the Explorer in the end.
@hbgghx576426 күн бұрын
@mowatches Awesome! I'm also seriously considering the BB 54 (or maybe 58) - I don't have a good diver yet. Regarding the Explorer vs. BB36 - I have bought the BB36 in blue (which looks fantastic) so I could potentially justify to buy a similar type of watch in black :-) Maybe I'll try to get on a list, good idea.

Honestly, what irks me about this watch is that the day cutout bumps the 15-second mark out of place. It’s even worse on the 42mm. Very little needed to be done to correct this (frankly, they should have just omitted the 15 from the 42mm), and idk why Hamilton did nothing about it.

Appreciate the honest review. The crystal has always been a deal breaker for me. I'm not usually fussy about crystals but the hamilton is like 40% mirror. Every real photo online shows the camera in the reflection. I stay clear of hamilton for that reason. Too bad, great watches otherwise. My Damasko crystal is nearly invisible the ar is so strong. Oris Aquis is another great watch with a terrible reflective crystal. Maybe I am fussy after all.
@mowatchesАй бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment and happy to see that you feel the same. You are right it is a shame, because otherwise the watches really are amazing. Did not know this about the Aquis, too bad really. I really dont get why the watch makers try to save a few bucks here for watches beyond 500$

The 1016 was a far better looking watch. Why would you put this on a nato?? It just makes it look cheap and tacky.
@mowatchesАй бұрын
It was definitely iconic! Tbh I get your point with the nato, but I also understand that people want to make it “their“ explorer by personalizing the strap. Also, the watch definitely has some amazing tool and field watch vibes, which a plain khaki nato can feature quite well, for example.

So im looking to buy my first Rolex i don't know if i should do the explore the Sub or date just. What do you think should be my best choice here???
@mowatchesАй бұрын
I mean, all three of them are amazing, so you cannot make a mistake with either of them. It rather depends on your personal preference. Do you have rather big wrists, love divers and want a statement piece eveyone will recognize and compliment you for? get a sub. Do you want something smaller, subtle and incredibly versatile? Get a DJ or Explorer. Then, if you want a professional clasp, Roley original Mercedes hands and 100% understatement - get an explorer. Otherwise, if you are looking for a date window, a lot of class and more options to personalize the watch (dial colors, bezel, etc), get a DJ. Hope this helped. Let me know what choice you are making :)

I prefer the OP36 in black over the Explorer. Crown at 12 o’clock, domed bezel, same movement as the Explorer for 1000 $ less, less cluttered dial due to the minimal text on the dial, historically the first Rolex on the Everest and overall much more versatile and the purist Rolex you can get.
@mowatchesАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment, definitely understand your perspective. I really struggled to make a decision between the two, but ultimately chose the Explorer over the OP because of the Mercedes hands and the better clasp. However, I still think that the understatement and simplicity of the OP is hot as hell.

Preference is preference. U are right that it’s slightly smaller than advertised but ultimately it’s more appealing as a 40mm than a 36mm. Luxury watch brands definitely do NOT have the highest profit margins with their stainless steel sports models like you claim at 6:30 in the video. Gold watches have a MUCH high profit margin, which is why brands like Patek intentionally limit how many steel models they make each year - they want to force people to jump up to the precious medal versions because they have such higher profit margins.
