I get that. Im in uni rn and everybody from my old highschool are racing ahead in life. They have found new friend groups, gotten jobs, connected with others. I in contrast have nobody left, havnt made a single new friend in my whole uni career, and its tearing me up inside.what can I do? University isnt about social connection, they just want me to get a degree and get out for the next year. I feel like such a social outcast and screwup, even the nerdy quiet kids have found more friends, and im still stuck in this awkward isolated space. I hate it yet I just seem destined for perpetual loneliness. Fml.

My apologies for the long message. Tl;dr: Difficult as it may be, avoid constant comparisons to others. Can definitely relate to the sensation of being left behind. I was a real mess in high school, bottom of the barrel in my class, really. Severe confidence issues, laziness, and just struggling to keep my grades up. Though I managed to shake some of those things off in college, they still hindered me. When I started college, I initially majored in Psychology, but I wavered here and there, not 100% sure that that's what I wanted to do. It took me 6 years to complete my bachelor's degree (2-4 is the standard here). At that point I decided I was interested in medicine. That..... took some time. The classes required of me felt like they were a solid step-up from everything I'd taken so far to major in Psychology. Heck, I failed organic AND general chemistry the first time around. It took a toll on my morale, and I felt more isolated as time went on and I saw my friends (both from high school and college) graduate and move on with their lives. Would see people marry, start families, kickstart successful careers, etc, all while I looked on and thought "...and here I am still stuck." Took the MCAT twice (didn't even bother applying with my first score). Got into med school first time I applied. By this point, I'd already gotten a bit of a hang on this whole "keep your head down and do your work'" thing. Still, there were instances when I'd look up and see others... succeeding and moving on in life, and I still felt stuck. My only comfort was the thought that this grind would pay out in the end. Welp. Though there were some bumps along the road (thanks, COVID), I eventually graduated and matched in a Family Medicine residency program...... aaaand here I am, two years and two months in. Currently applying for my medical license, and got less than a year to go before I graduate. Looking back, those first two years flew by (the diversity in rotations definitely helps haha). Honestly at this point my eyes are firmly on the finish line, comparisons be damned... just can't bother with such self-inflicted pain anymore. Anyways, if you read all that, thanks and have a great day :]

I know exactly how Kiara feels. I entered college in 2019, expecting to graduate in the spring of 2023, made a decent amount of friends, but then covid hit and when I tried to go back to school in fall of 2020, I ended up dropping out for a year and switching my major (to Japanese). I met a whole bunch of new folks who I felt very close to because our major is small, and it was really nice. Cut to a year and a half ago, some of the people I knew from my first year of college are all graduating in front of me and I realize that I’m basically never gonna see them again. Then last year, as a “third” year, while I was in Japan for study abroad (as a part of my major requirement), I ended up not passing a class that would’ve been crucial for my graduation (I took a break this semester anyways but still). So now, for the second time, all of my friends are gonna graduate in front of me 😢 It hurts, so bad
