If all those notes were given more or less equal weight on the same keyboard the result would often be just mush. But there is great emphasis placed on the principal melody so that it does not become subsumed completely in a cacophony of noise. Helping out here is the absence of decay on those additional, gazillion, rapidly banging notes. By having their envelope limited to purely the note duration, this further minimizes the mush of noise. In short, we have two main elements in operation; the dominant melody and the significantly suppressed extraneous stuff. To me it's a gimmick made possible only by use of a computer/sequencer, and imparts no real additional meaning to the songs. Unless the aim is to present the imagined, frenetic composition of a mad robot. 😉
