I believe i may have one of these guitars the bridge has been changed at some point but has had a pin bridge on it previously body shape neck and headstock shape are identical Brass plaque on headstock reads Barnes and Mullins London but research tells me they didnt make guitars body finish was amber shellac when i acquired it plays beautfully made from solid wood
@lucassobieranski9089Ай бұрын
@@DavidMorgan-e1s Germany produced a lot of unbranded guitars so that music shops can slap their brand on it. I had a mandolin labelled Barnes and Mullins but it was actually an Italian import. This type of business was very common back then and still is today, just like stuff on Amazon or eBay where the same item has a different logo on it.

@lucassobieranski9089 is it still comparatively brighter than a flat/carved mandolin though? I'm thinking of doing this for my mandolin but I don't want to have a flat back sound

The large brass plate has the tuners fitted upside down so the string tension pulls the cogs away from the worm gear . Bad engineering . Well that`s what I thought. But I was wrong .

Look for Optima or Pyramid Mandriola sets on Amazon or Thomann otherwise you can make your own set by combining mandolin set plus 4 single strings for lower octave

Hi Lucas, I still have the English flat back mandolin I got from you a few years ago (it has a great sound with more projection than my Kentucky). I'd never thought to convert it to nylon. Where do you get the Nylgut strings? Are they Uke strings?
@lucassobieranski90898 ай бұрын
Hi Roger, which mandolin was it? These strings are better for tailpiece with pins rather than hooks. You can get this set directly from Aquila but you can also check eBay (Red series M1)
Awesome! I got to meet Chet Atkins backstage after a concert he did with the Amarillo (TX) Symphony in 1982 or so. My guitar teacher knew him. I was told Chet knew Christopher Parkening, who was my guitar teacher's mentor.

Well, I enjoyed it hearing this intimate sounding guitar. Don't expect a "2023 sound" from it. As these guitars tend to have less sustain it would be advisable to add some reverb. On the other hand it is an honest recording. Thumbs up also for your restoration work! There was a lot to be done.....

I have one almost identical to it, my German great grandma used to play it and now I do, it's in OK shape but the top is bent from years of existence, the fretboard developed DIY scalloping and the details are slightly falling off but it kinda plays. I wish to one restore it because it could have like 200years and it's been in my family since forever

These Puglisi mandolins and also the "younger ones" are in fact amazing sound wise. In fact there should be some more respect for their instruments. I owe a DiMeglio copy that simply beats the original one. Maybe some day I will try the Embergher copy from Puglisi if I can get my hands on one of them. Nice playing, I'm going to try that also.
