Recently got back into Cyberpunk and I am absolutely loving it. Considering the history of revisions, old versions and such things I am very grateful to have found this channel delving into the games past and cut content. Cheers mate!

4:04 I really doubt these are procedurally generated. Most likely these are a bunch of satellite images cut up and stitched together, games do this all the time during development. Some of it also probably belongs to the actual town cyberpunk is based upon in terms of location

I'd be okay with cp2077s sequel taken place in the exact same city if they only changes they make is to include the cut content and add more to already empty spaces

AVs seem to be for personal or buisiness use for rich fucks or military, so airplanes could still be there for mass transportation. Or remains from the past, becaue everyone and there mother has a stinger in their trunk in 2077 and is now too dangerous

i cannot wait for the next iteration of Night City in the next game. i really hope they go all out and just include any/everything they can into it and expand locations. (not sure how they'll explain these new locations, like how in the lore the city experienced a loss of population to explain the amount of NPCs lol) but idc, i just want them to make a massive immersive city again.

Yellow lines are not ncart, since the orange motorway has exits onto them. They are the main streets of the city, or maybe those that were modeled already, since only watson has a lot of them

AV's in Cyberpunk are more akin to helicopters in current times, great for short distance flying but never used for long distance commercial travel. In the Cyberpunk universe airplanes still exist, though very much upgraded. They reach close to space during flight and are in function similar to 60's and 70's interceptor jets, think of them as a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird or Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 in flight capability but scaled up to the size of a commercial plane. Hence why when Meyers crashes down in "Space Force One" she's in an airplane and not an AV.

Reason why Archology exists in 2077 probably has to do with the fact that early on, the game was supposed to be set in an alternate timeline from the RPG where Night City wasn't nuked and Johnny didn't die until 2052, 15 years before the game.

That Arcology description kinda reminds me of the Kowloon Walled City that was in Hong Kong. Also, having such differences in the maps during the development of a game, is certainly not uncommon. Just look at GTA's. I'd be interested to hear more about some story changes as well, heard tales about Jackie's sister, Evelyn being alive with his child and such.

To drop some concept art knowledge, your correct on initial assessment of white squares vs map underneath. IT looks a lot like the map itself is a photo bash, which is a process of splicing together a bunch of images using photoshop to make a bigger image. Which is likely what they did with a bunch of random google earth images, and then set actual map concepts on top.

An airport is actually not too hard to believe. Sure, AVs exist, but you won't use it for overseas or intercontinental travel, so I guess airplanes still need to be a thing, like Space Force One, on Phantom Liberty... It only makes sense that Night City has an airport. The smaller one could be either an executive airport for private jets or some sort of military base, since I don't imagine government officials and high level corpos liking the idea of flying next to Pacifica... All that probably got removed after CDPR decided to cut flying vehicles. And there is a small airport in the Badlands, totally wrecked, but it's there. As to the cosmodrome, since "aerodrome" is a term used to describe every location or facility destined to operate aircraft in, I imagine cosmodrome is simply another term for the space-port we already have in game.

Tbh, I still think when they got the likes of Reeves on board, the story changed and we got far less in the actual world than most of us were hoping for. Players even now go giddy over the "story" in 2077, and I just don't get why? I would much rather have seen the story really dove into the world of Cyberpunk! The Corps and gangs are criminally underused! The old concept maps defintiely look way more interesting than what we ended up with. Biotechnica seemed like it was jsut, "We have all this empty sapce, we need to fill it with something", because outside of the Nomad prolgue and a couple of rinse and repeat sidequests, there's fuck all there, it's just one enormous piece of set dressing. Airports make sense. There would still be large volume aircraft for trans-continental flights I'd have thought. Space Force one is a plane at the end of the day, it clearly requires a runway to take off and land, and the updated spaceport still has a runway!

Maybe some kind of traditional aircraft still exist in cyberpunk? military aircraft or supersonic aircraft for those airports? There's the Arasaka supercarrier in the harbour which carries fighters and i swear I heard the in game radio mention, and compares to the Arasaka aircraft carrier, some kind of old american Millitech "B-52 Stratofortress" heavy bomber which in real life is one of the USA's three different bomber aircraft, and was made in the 1950's and is capable of carrying nuclear bombs and is still used today, alongside the other newer real life "B-2 Spirit" triangle-ish shaped stealth nuclear bomber, and the variable-sweep wing "B-1 Lancer" supersonic bomber.

The southern airport (where Biotechnica Flats is now) is most likely an altered stock picture, as the terminal building is actually an upside down and trimmed Terminal 2 at Harry Reid Las Vegas Airport. If you look it up on Google Maps you'll see what I mean. The Runway section is most likely from another random airport and cobbled together for concept purposes.

ngl, im praying the next cyberpunk takes place in 2020, 2077 is awesome, but its really missing that 80's flair and we see they can do it well with the johnny flash backs, and those are the best bits if you ask me, just make a whole game with it, retro cybernetics, can have whispers of johnny silverhand doin shit, all sorts of night city legends that table top fans would fucking love to hear references to or appearances, they could even take a campaign from the table top game, or several campaigns and mash them together and just adapt that to a video game, that'd be awesome

Ohhh boy, as a semi-regular Cyberpunk 2020 GM, a few things to unpack -NC in 2020 used to have honest-to-god Zeppelins as part of the regular airport traffic, in true Blade Runner fashion these blimps roamed around town blasting corp ads OR you could book a flight on these aero-zeps from NC all the way up to Washington DC in what's essentially floating luxury cruisers -The Pacifica arcology isn't the only human hive in NC, Mallplexes were the norm in 2020 and they were the living quarters for most if not all of america's middle class post '99, they were akin to the megabuildings from 2077 but the difference lies in that they're also.. well... giant malls. -Arcologies in Cyberpunk 2020 are always described as not also self sufficient, but also fortified to the teeth, complete with Anti Air capabilities and enough automated turrets to mow down an entire city block (Night City Sourcebook pg38) -NCART and general public transport in NC has been terrible on purpose since day 1. Pondsmith designed the TRPG version of the NCART route with SimCity 2 and he made sure it would always clog down during rush hour and the stations would be placed at the most inefficient locations known to man -Westbrook and North Oak were also meant to house the higher tiers of corporate employees: Hi-level techies, middle and upper managers, cheif researchers, etc. In 2020 these are called the Beavers (a boomer-ass reference to a 60s sitcom); uniform, clean cut housing projects with high levels of corp security, complete with their own expensive mallplexes and country clubs -North Oak was also home to a USA military base -Going by how the 2020 Map was designed and compared to 2077, the space that comprises the Biotechnica Flats covers both what used to be the old Rancho Coronado Beaverville AND the Heywood factories -Actually, most if not all of Night City's districts were re-sized and moved around in 2077, from what I remember both RTalsorian and CDPR agreed that having a Night City that big would both kill the RedEngine and turn driving from one point to another into a chore. Kinda reminds me of how the Total War Warhammer map had to resize the overal map of the Warhammer World for gameplay reasons

Hey, I wanted to ask. As a longtime reader of the sourcebooks and rare player, what would you describe the theme and tone of 2020? To me, it seems like a mix of 3 things. 1:"Glam" rock type tone. Like in City Center, it seems at night it would be bursting with flood lights, and super bright neon and street lights. In 2077, it's more of a scary oppression zone. And the rest of the city would be like a sketchy LA/NYC with people walking around who look like they shop at Hot Topic. 2: Classic Bladerunner. CRT displays, really dirty and dingy alleys, and fax machines, while being much more focused on casual Cyberware than Bladerunner ever was. However, the city wasn't super dense like Bladerunner depicted, it's more like a regular city that's pushed to its limit. 3: The worst version of 80's environmental disaster forecasting. It literally says the oceans are sludge, and birds no longer exist. The sky is usually overcast or a vile orange and red. Most clothes resist acid rain due to how common and damaging it is. I think Cyberpunk 2077 undid some of that. There's sunny skys, birds exist into the 2060s around NC, the drive around the city isn't that long, and there's no underground heroic attitudes. It's kind of duller and more sketchy, the Edgerunner scene. There's not a lot of common classic punk or rock vibes anymore either. Not even mallplexes. Can't even walk into the legal store clinic for regulated cyberware. I think in 2020, a ripperdoc was a term for a non-professional, underground, illegal cyberware surgeon. In 2077, it's treated as the only way to get most Cyberware. I think there's one real clinic in the game, in Charter Hill, run by the Russian girl. There's no Bioware in 2077, but some cyberware seems more synthetic and "wet." That's my take on it. What do you think?

Airplanes have been supplemented in Cyberpunk by suborbital aircraft that take off from an airport, reach near space (60mi) altitude, then descend to their destination. It's why Air Force One is called Space Force One. The reason for two airports could have been one for cargo and the other for passenger/corporate flights. The Cosmodrome would have been used by Orbital Air to launch flights to the space stations and the Moon. It might have been that Biotechnica Flats were added in when it was decided to combine the Cosmodrome and airports into NCX. The Pacifica Arkology would have been incredibly wild and could be an entire district on its own.

That "Arcology" stuff probably got changed pretty early on in development. That section of Pacifica was never intended to be "normal". Even before the expansion, when it was just a walled off piece of unfinished assets, we could find shards mentioning "that general's men" beyond the wall, hinting that CDPR planned for a while on doing some sort of narrative specific to that environment. My theory is that the Combat zone (now Dogtown) was going to be the combat multiplayer area of the game before that functionality got completely canned. Whatever thin narrative they had for that got expanded into Hansen, barghest, Dogtown, and all that.

Why wouldnt there be two airports? As a relic of a bigone era. Now used for crime, corpo cri-... valid business and government cri-... matters. The Watson is smaller, so maybe a private owned, used by flight fans, smugglers and those who value privacy, using ancient gasoline burning planes and second hand AV, while the biggie used for AV shippings and backup space flight platform. After all NC as we see in game would not be able to sustain it self with the out/in bound logistic presented in game

I think the Russians had some influence on the city they were running guns into it after all and some of the containers laying around are labelled in Russian.. it is part of the lore. So I guess when the Russians were investing in the city they built a space port and as such it was know by the historical Russian terms for launch and prep sites (Basically Russian for spaceport in this context) Perhaps this is something else that fell through the cracks when the role of the corporations was drastically reduced in the game then the Russian and other external influences were also lapsed too. As for the Mega Buildings in general the 3rd parson off shoot they were working on seemed to be set pretty much entirely inside one of usual size. Though I forget the details as It was a while ago now. Perhaps that is what the intended to do with that concept later on anyway.

100,000 people in 7 squaremiles is not that much to be honest. The district I live in has 2,66 squarekilometers (which is just 1.65 squaremiles) with just under 39,000 inhabitants. The highest buildings here have 24 stories, most are more in the range of 14 to 16 and none are interconnected like an arcology would be. So the allegedly densely populated arcology of Pacifica would offer more living space per inhabitant than the district I live in which was built in the 1960s and contains a number of parks and a small forest too btw.
