I can't quite put my finger on it, but the way they changed and updated the small section of Night City we saw for 2079 somehow felt even more cyberpunk than the rest of the game did, and the rest of the game nailed imo. It felt depressing, like nothing mattered and that NC continues on destroying lives as usual. CDPR really got it right and I cannot wait for what they bring next with Project Orion.

I think part of it is that The Tower ending is ultimately a pretty bad one. Yes, V survives, but at a terrible cost. All of the future potential, the possibility, represented by the more vibrant and bustling Night City we first walk out into from Megabuilding H10, is gone. V is now your average gonk, Mr. Puggins from the Safe and Sound tv show, in mortal danger from walking down the wrong alley, and has no hope of that ever changing. The dreary weather, more blatant rot and deprivation on display, and the ongoing erasure of V's old haunts by urban renewal all feed into this theme. Even Misty leaving town and Viktor getting forced under the corporate yoke are part of setting up this atmosphere of loss and hopelessness. V lives, but has lost everything and everyone.

I think Militech having multiple construction sites is referencing the decline of Arasaka and the resurgence of Militech in NC. We know that Arasaka fades in this ending, and Myers keeps her WMD so we can assume that Night City basically trades one megacorp for another, which is more how the rest of the NUSA is.

The big rectangle has to be for triggering occlusion or something, if the player sticks within the bounds, it could signal to the engine not to draw anything behind it. The changes to the little slice of NC that you see in this ending was really surprising to me, and really changed the vibe of V's neck of the woods in just a 2 year gap. Thanks for making this! Much of it is the same as 2077 but very little interactability. V's flat itself was hollowed out and caused me to fall through the world if I recall right. I didn't hate this ending because V lost their power. I didn't hate it because we "lost" 2 years. I hated it because the things that actually mattered to V, their friends some even so close you would consider them family. Just left. Moved on like it was nothing. Vik, someone who had known V for years shrugs off their arrival after going dark presumed dead for 2 years. Couldn't even give you a hug and tell you he's busy but as soon as he's done he's coming over. Your lover any of them, just done moved on. If they where with someone else I could understand them blocking the romantic part but Jesus Christ they don't even want to see you, someone they loved. This ending is the worst because its so damn artificial. If they ended it with V's becoming a powerless nobody, but a powerless nobody who was surrounded by people they love it would be my favorite. But no. It's V, all alone. Their best friends and family ghosting them because of what? 2 years?!? Nonsense, if my man done disappeared I would be devastated. But if he showed up 2 years later explaining he was in a damn coma you think I would just drop him like nothing? HELL NO! People don't act like that... I'm drunk as fuck writing this, but let it be known the best ending is still the avocado gang. Even if V dies they die with the people they love and that's all that maters in the end. I wouldn't even doubt if they didn't even make a drink for V in the afterlife how damn fast everyone forgot about them.
@sorokabeloboka88185 ай бұрын
Hard agree. It felt incredibly forced to please the "No happy endings in Night City" crowd. Like, no one really cared in this ending that V's life was on the line and coma thing was out of their control. Vik of all people should have understood. Also Aldecaldos dumping V feels especially stupid. If by that point you have done a lot for them, it would actually make a great ending with Aldecaldos scouting out V and taking care of them in return for V taking care of Aldecaldos prior. Would reinforce the whole nomad familiarity theme.

2079 is great depiction of why stalemate within NC was so important for so long, once Arasaka that was around for almost 80 years withdraws Millitech which is basically just a global corpo-hand of NUSA grips the NC. Not to mention free states basically not having any support anymore from Arasaka means that NUSA can straight us go against unification treaty take over free states and also go for Texas uniting most of North America under NUSA and militech. I also heavily doubt USSR would help again especially when Arasaka is gone and I doubt Kang Tao can do much.

I mean, to me it's pretty simple as to why they didn't model a whole new map for that ending, and it's 3-fold: 1: 2 years is not a very long time in terms of construction, and that's when it's ONLY construction. When you factor in the fact that corps were probably spending some time buying out buildings or negotiating/politicking with other corps, 2 years is no time at all to build/heavily renovate even a section of city 2: It's more work. Slapping a coat of paint on existing NC is way easier 3: Last and perhaps most important, I got the distinct impression that CDPR wanted you to almost get a sense of wrongness from coming back to NC. The streets are the same, the buildings haven't moved, but everything feels different. It's the same city you left, but it's moved on without you, a fact hammered home with the encounter with the street thugs. If they made a whole new city (or a section of one), you would've lost that visual of same-yet-different that permeates that ending, and it just wouldn't've worked as well IMO.

See to me, 2079 is more how I expected the world of the game in general to be like, not the bright, vibrant generally fairly normal world it actually is in 2077. Like yeah, there's lots of trashy areas, but there just seems to be very little evidence of the corps really impacting the world or the lives of the people within it. But in 2079, there clearly is, at least from Arasaka. Sure the corps exist in 2077, but really only superficially. You only have one real encounter with Militech through Stout, only come across Kang Tao once and despite Arasaka being the main sort of focus, I feel even they're lacking any real substance. As far as I can remember you never have any direct contact with Biotechnica or Petrochem.
@tomjones88597 ай бұрын
I feel like that's kinda intentional. As someone who has ran 2020 and RED I'd say the impression I got more was the corporations keep an eye on the streets but don't really care to get involved in them that much unless it directly affects them, which is rare considering how powerful the corps are. V's just a merc so if they were constantly bumping into and getting involved in corporate plots I think it would make them feel less... I guess god-like, if you get what I mean. So you get stuck dealing with mostly with the gangs and whoever else has the power to aid you until the big fish start taking notice like the NUSA and subfactions of Arasaka. Also just a minor thing but we know the Tiger Claws, like the Iron Sights before them, are paid off by Arasaka to perform certain operations and tasks for them. We also learn Danger Gal does something similar, paying Edgerunners to help them test people and organisations secretly so they can collect more data on them so hopefully we see more corps using gangs and Edgerunners to achieve their goals and collect info.

I'm thinking that giant rectangle is there to help performance. I'm assuming it is there so that the game renders less of the city on the other side of it. To go further, modern game engines use "culling" to cut away parts of the map that don't need to be loaded. I think the giant fuck-off rectangle was a simple way of forcing the game to cull the stuff behind it, since we'll never go or see that far out. So increasing performance by not rendering as far out in that direction.
