Ah, yes the dreaded DVIII spin.... It's really strange that the models do it when the original flies so good.

Bought mine from estate sale, same issue, the builder failed to put in correct incidence on horizontal stab, should be about 2-3 degrees up on leading edge.

Hi What proppeller do you use? and how high rpm do you get? I couldn't find manual for this version engine. I need few information: Output Power ,RPM range and oil mixture ratio. Do you use original Ignition module? Thanks Paul
@davren567 жыл бұрын
hello, Sorry I can't help you much with this engine. I got it used, in a trade and sold it shortly after I posted this video. The prop was an 18x8 in this video. I think a 18x6 might do a little better. I never tached it, and don't know what the power rating was. I used it on a 71 inch wingspan, seagull, extra 260. It was OK in that, not 3d capable, but pretty good vertical. I used an Rcxel ignition, not the original.

Very cool little model, however that horizontal stabilizer had me worried, it looked like it was about to fly off. I've grown rather fond of rc autogyros lately and I've just started a scratch build of my own.

Thanks for the reply davern56. I have a 3S battery for it and most likely I would only use 3S. Is 4S little overkill?
@davren568 жыл бұрын
Mody Khan, no I don't think 4s is overkill at all. It flys fine on 3s, but you'll want more when you get used to it.

Lost radio contact. I suspect I had the 2 antennas too close to each other, although I had flown it quite a few times before w/o issue, maybe just found the sweet spot. It did reconnect before it crashed, as you can hear the motor throttle back up, but it was below the trees at that point and I couldn't see what it was doing. I've glued it all back together and made a few flights with the antennas further separated and so far, no problems. Who knows?

Thanks for filming. It helps the pain. I'm building a Super Privateer by Berkeley but with extend wing for slope soaring Koh Samui or Phuket or where ever as I live in Thailand. I might have to rent a seat for it on the bus or train down. Building a case would take too long. Hope you fly again as soon as problems sorted. Paul V Thailand.

Do you put the Batteries in the nose? I just got one of these and that's the only place I see to put them is in the nose only problem is it doesn't look like 2 6s batteries are going to fit.
@bigdodgeaus9 жыл бұрын
My DVIII did exactly the same thing, the only difference was I had about 200ft more to play with. Due to the lack of dihedral and the ailerons on the tips they tip stall really easily at low speed and due to the low Phillips entry on the airfoil it takes a fair bit of speed to get the wing flying again. I hope you rebuilt it and are now enjoying it.
@tomasinacovell42938 жыл бұрын
+Mark Godfrey I always thought the wing looked like the later Curtiss P6 only with a greater separation index but still like it was on the verge of being a Clark-y?

You know that glove with do NOTHING to save your hand from a prop strike, right?
@davren569 жыл бұрын
Monel Funkawitz I wasn't wearing it to protect against a prop strike. I was wearing it because the trailing edge of that prop was sharp as a knife. And, FWIW fingertip prop strikes hurt a lot less if you're waring a nicely padded glove.
@monelfunkawitz39669 жыл бұрын
Ahh. Ok. Makes sense. I had a friend that got bit by a prop. Cut his finger to the bone... THROUGH his glove. Almost took his finger off.
