One of the best user protections would be a feature to turn of ALL telemetry & adware/spyware.. to be enabled by the user IF they want.

I use, on a daily basis, a Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge (14 inch) that I bought back in June. With updates of Windows and applications, it like having a whole new device - 5 months later.

Not sure I understand how the new security feature is better from the configured UAC. Once you provide admin access, you allow the execution of that thing, with whatever changes that needs to make. Besides, everybody begs for subscribing... if I did it for everyone asking for it, would I see other content? If I subscribed to 1000 channnels, I only have a certain amount of hours to watch stuff.

RE: New Security Feature, Its difficult to know whether this is just a bad description of how this feature works or whether this feature is as rubbish as it sounds. The whole idea of elevating an account to admin in most cases is so either allow software that requires admin permissions work or installers that need to deploy files into the active profile can work correctly. If the new mode pushes you into a new profile then it won't solve the problem most elevated users are solving and I can't see how it reduces the security risk what-so-ever. All Microsoft had to do was enforce signed exe's and dll's on Windows and although signing to be available for free or < $100 but instead they've made signing too complicated & too expensive and not enforced it. Its very clear they aren't really serious about security, rather just making money by keeping the risk in play and charging customers to 'protect' themselves. When it comes to CrowdStrike, Microsoft shouldn't have approved a kernel driver that downloads and runs external code and had no testing framework. Recovering PC's after the fact isn't the solution.

@synthwave7 2 сағат бұрын
You have your views yes - signed DLL's - we don't want that complication on Windows. MS never impelements new things without brainstorming it.

Every time I attempt to upgrade from Windows server 2022 to Windows Server 2025 after the first reboot it says Disk Error and I have to restore it back to Server 2022. I have tried everything but every time I installed 2025 upgrade mode keep everything I get the same Disk Read error when it reboots. HELP.

They've taken away more and more granular controls when it comes to Windows Updates over time. Even the Windows Update group policies for Windows 7 had more control than what you get with the latest Win10/11 ADMX Templates. Not sure how technology is getting better but features are actually regressing. Very frustrating.

WSUS is free and serves a function, if you you manage a large(ish) server estate, as an update cache and can allow you to manage the role out of updates. It isn't perfect and has suffered from zero real development over the last 10 years. All other options (SCCM, Intune, Arc etc) have a cost which can be quite steep. SCCM and Intune are more targeted at client systems not servers. Arc requires Azure licencing. You can just stop using it and go direct to MS but you would need to give your servers access to the internet.

Lunar Lake has flaws but X Elite is much worse, Intel has no compatibility problem but X Elite still has a distance to go. Most consumers don’t want to face unpredictable problems, even X Elite may works 90% similar to x86, the 10% gap is a big deal.

I had a Surface Pro 11 (replacing my very old Surface Pro 3, I moved to Apple after it), but traded it in for a 15" Surface Laptop 7, because I like to work with a Laptop on my lap. I got a new PC, because Windows 11 on the M-series Mac is castrated (M-series does not yet support nested hypervisors). The Snapdragon X Elite is nice in performance and battery-life. But a) it does not support Lightroom classic (Adobe prohibits you from installing it), and does not support Nikon Z8/Z9 compressed RAW (the algorithm for it does not run on ARM), b) it does not support GPU/NPU for generic AI-tasks (llama.cpp, ollama, LM-studio), even though its very fast on the CPU with the llama.cpp ARM Q4_0_4_8 quantization (approx. as fast as a 10-GPU M2 chip). Then I also had some very weird display-driver isssues, resume fom standby did not work. I could solve it by re-installing (!!!). Overall my Surface Laoptop is a nice office machine, but not useable for photography or AI. I will upgrade my M2 MacBook Air to an M4 (as soon as it gets available), and with this, I should be also able to run non-castrated Windows 11 (doe to nested hypervisor support in Sequoia on M3+). Then I will probably sell my Surface Laptop 7. Windows 11 with AI has been a bit of a disppointment, and the Copilot+PC only uses its special hardware for very limited tasks - while it does not run generic AI like llama.cpp based inference - well.

Intune is not a solution that can be used in controlled, high security environments. So whether Microsoft likes it or not, a replacement for wsus will be necessary eventually, or people will simply replace Microsoft in those environments - many of which are large government or manufacturing environments.
