They're not sneaker designers, they're sneaker collaborators. Top be a designer is to create something from scratch. They're just adding colors to already existing silhouettes
@thesoletable2 ай бұрын
Respectfully disagree. The silhouette is brought to them as a blank. They are designers in the sense that they’ve chosen the sneaker, the colors, patterns and fabrics to go on the sneaker. Even to your point of them “collaborating”. They’ve collaborated on the design of the sneaker, which would then put them in to the realm of sneaker design.

Collabs have become the advertising for sneaker brands now. They team up with a rapper or company choose an old model to revamp. Then they both promote it on social medias for free, force hype and then under supply the availability. Then over the next year or two sell that same sneaker model with no collab hype to the masses. People then post their own sneakers and how they styled them, in turn becoming yet another free ad for these companies. There’s no reason for them to spend millions with ad agencies and tv spots when they get more eyes on a product for free using social media and blogs.

@thesoletable4 ай бұрын
At the peak of reselling like during Covid, absolutely. I think now the reselling market has tapered off a little bit. Canary Travis Scott’s are going for $400 after the release which seems “reasonable”. There has always been a “resale” game to some degree but it just became over saturated at one point. The problem now is, we need more creativity in the game from companies.
