Yeah fair enough. Roguelikes definitely have their quirks that can mess with appeal. I couldn't get into them for the longest time and even now that I have I can only play so many runs at a time until my brain melts from frustration

I bought balatro on my phone when it was nominated, and I started playing it a lot on the trolley home in the afternoon, but I don't really play it outside of that. I decided to get it for my dad for christmas, and I've seen him playing it almost constantly since.

I'm a little surprised your channel is still so small. Your recording quality and delivery is top notch (so far I have only seen the short Balatro video and this one) and you're genuine and excited about the games you talk about. I assume it will click sooner or later. It seems like you want to get through a lot of gaming this year. You also seem to script everything you say in your video (a very good thing in my book), does the writing and editing come easy to you? I'll subscribe and check on your progress 😊 Edit: typo

Hey thanks! I appreciate that a lot. I do script a lot in these types of videos because if I don't my brain ceases to function when I hit record and I forget every thought and opinion I have. But it works out. I can't really say it comes super easy to me. I learn a lot with every video and the writing gets a little easier but I have chronic writers block and most of my scripts get written in a 2 hour frenzy a day before I release the videos. They could be way higher quality if I spent more time on them but it's progress

I remember how I encountered Balatro. Legit, I never heard of it until Lythero’s Shadow video mentioned it. And then suddenly I’ve been seeing it everywhere. YongYea’s video on the dev talking about the bogus rating system. Then news of it winning the Indie Game award. And then Markiplier played it. I finally decided to give it a shot on PS5, thinking it’d be a simple time. I have since bought the game again on Switch and mobile devices and have been playing it a lot since. I got so hooked. Someone send help. Lol

Nobody is ever gonna be able to refund Balatro... Steam has only 2h refund policy and there ain't no fucking way you will notice the flow of time while playing it. You sit down for 15min and it's been 5 hours - it's a goddamn black hole, time just flows differently :/

Woah, I am absolutely caught off guard by these picks. I mean, so surprising. Totally out of character for you. On a more serious note, yeah solid picks. I grabbed a number of these purely because of you, and damn. This was a pretty nice year for releases ALSO GAMES: Assassins creed shadows Crimson desert Avowed Wanderstop Atomfall Doom the dark ages Elden ring night reign (multiplayer with 3 people) Vampire the masquerade bloodlines 2 I doubt you’d like all of those, but out of the ones I’m excited for they seem the most likely

I feel like Animal Well could have been a bit surprising. I actually forgot it came out 2024 until I sat down to make this list and was like "yeah I really really liked that game". Hopefully this year can come with some good surprises.

4:56 i think the throwing mechanic is aimed more towards distracting people to get past them stealthily rather than actually throwing it at them to deal damage, and to also slow them down whilst they are chasing you

That's actually a good point. Though it's also pretty buggy. Almost had some problems in the last section because I threw a bottle to distract an enemy but it broke the NPC's pathfinding making it spin in circles.

Get it on your phone and uninstall it from your pc. It's perfect for killing time when you need to kill time. I was late to a dentist appointment and they told me I can get in after 2 hours since I missed my time slot. I sat down, opened Balatro on my phone and it felt like I sat down for 2 minutes before my name was called.

Very true. Although the downside to having it on your phone is when you decide to pull it up while laying in bed so you can "just play one round real quick" and then you blink and somehow it's 5am
