Hi, Ashley! Thanks for this video. I’m 49 and about to graduate with a BA in Business Administration and starting my MHA in May one year program since I have 19 years experience as a Neurmuscular Therapist. Your videos are beyond helpful. Do you think I can get a hospital admin job while in my Masters? My MHA is $10,500

I’m currently a medical assistant and today I went to look at a school and it looks like the best route for me is health care administration. I’m not sure if being an MA is good to have for this degree or if I should focus on getting a different entry level job? Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you!

I am a nurse with 10+ yrs of experience where I spent most of my career in the ER. I worked in inpatient units, psych, in a SNF, home health and hospice. I am currently in case management and utilization review and want to pivot my career in health admin. I am currently in an MSN program with Leadership and Admin focus. Initially, I wanted to do an MBA but since there is tuition reimbursement for MSN programs, I did it. I am halfway and I wish I just went for the MBA instead. I'd still go and pursue it and currently preparing to take the GMAT. I am an entrepreneur outside my profession and would love to do startup or maybe go to VC that's why I want an MBA vs MHA. I work for a huge healthcare organization in Northern California and I discovered about Administrative Fellowship. I currently earn 200k a year and what sets me back is over 100k pay cut just to do the Admin Fellowship. I spent a great time in the clinical areas and I want to go to the business and operations side of healthcare. How was your experience? Is being a nurse an advantage or a curse when crossing the health admin side? I am in a leadership training and my mentor is our chief nurse executive. I feel like I am on the right track but at times I feel lost because it's hard to connect to the right people. Now I put myself out there introducing to the higher ups of my organization my interest in becoming a healthcare admin. How was your career so far? What's your ROI after taking MHA? Is it worth it for me to leave my 200k job to start anew and get my salary to half of its current worth? Or possibly I can apply in other HC system and would switch to per diem in my current role for flexibility.

Im actually 40 years old and always knew I wanted a college education but life happened to me. I've worked in a medical office on the clinical side for 17 years. I'm now a undergrad student, starting year 3. I was in accounting but had the epiphany to change to healthcare admin. Do you think I should I be looking for another job on the admin side? Or am I good where I am?

Hi Ashley My name is Jessica Gentry and I'm going to school to study for Healthcare Administration. My question is would you recommend getting certification in Healthcare Administration?
@DropPetals
@DropPetals 3 ай бұрын
Tips for getting into hospitals Get Certifications: If you don't have a degree, earning certifications can help you stand out. Certifications like CHAA (Certified Healthcare Access Associate), CHAM (Certified Healthcare Access Manager), or CRCP (Certified Revenue Cycle Professional) are valuable in healthcare administration. These show employers you have specialized knowledge and are committed to the field. Start in Patient Access or Patient Financial Services: These entry-level positions are easier to break into, even without extensive healthcare experience. Roles like Patient Access Representative, Financial Counselor, or Insurance Verification Specialist provide foundational knowledge in healthcare operations and are excellent starting points. Look for Administrative Fellowships: Many hospitals offer administrative fellowship programs for those looking to gain leadership experience in healthcare. These fellowships are excellent opportunities to fast-track your career, giving you hands-on experience and mentorship in various departments. Leverage Your Network: Networking within healthcare settings, joining professional organizations like NAHAM (National Association of Healthcare Access Management), and attending industry events or webinars can expose you to opportunities and mentors. Build Your Resume with Experience: Volunteer, intern, or take on part-time roles to get your foot in the door. Any experience in customer service or administrative roles translates well to healthcare administration positions. Prepare for Revenue Cycle Exams: If you're studying for exams like CHAA, CHAM, or CRCP, check out resources and coaching from experts. Follow my channel @DropPetals for practice test questions and tutorials to help you pass these exams.

Lots of careers start at entry level. That's nothing new. Get an internship. Research jobs and then figure out your strategy. Lots of hospitals pay for Masters education programs while you work.

I’m trying to choose between a bachelors in healthcare administration or a bachelors in business administration with a focus in healthcare administration. Ultimately I want to work in healthcare but still have options outside of healthcare. Is the business admin degree the right choice in your opinion?

I have been working in pharma clinical trials post graduate work in medicine (no boards sadly/too late) but recently obtained my mba with healthcare administration concentration. My experiemce includes clinical trial and project management with former sales experience in aviation. How can I pivot towards Director roles from my stagnating Jr/mid roles? I also own a startup NEMT business and plan to grow to include mobile diagnostics over time.

I would recommend going Healthcare Administration if you want to stay in healthcare. Business Administration does not teach a lot about healthcare industry plus there are a lot of people with that degree. Health Information Administration it is focus more in EMR. If you go for a general Healthcare Administration you can land a Health Information job as long as you show experience with EMR and privacy laws plus leadership.

Thank you for speaking on the problems hospitals will face with baby boomers retiring. As a recent Healthcare Administration and Management graduate, this was my first time hearing about the ratio of working individuals to one baby boomers. This explains why so much conversation is happening with social security and changing the retirement age. Great content.
