A little constructive criticism: I’ve found with a lot of your devices, they aren’t intuitive because of the lack of labeling or descriptive iconography. Case in point: a small red dot does not scream “randomize” to me. Rather, it looks like skeuomorphic red LED status indicator for… something? A simple “dice” icon is generally accepted as the conventional language for randomization.
@SOUNDDUST3 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to comment, always up for helpful suggestions - even if we ignore them : ) The small red 'chaos' dot has been Sound Dust convention since before the dawn of the 'dice' thing, and we hate jumping on bandwagons. There is always an RTFM infographic built into the interface of every instrument that introduces the knobs and their functions - and if you hover your mouse near a cryptic knob a description of its function appears at the bottom of the Kontakt interface . 👍
@deastman23 ай бұрын
@@SOUNDDUSTOf course it’s your prerogative to ignore my feedback. Yes, I’m aware of the RTFM page, but I shouldn’t really need it. As a long time customer of yours, up to and including this latest release, I can only say that your design language can be obtuse at times. It isn’t always obvious what is or isn’t a clickable/draggable control, or what the function of small, unlabeled controls might be. I have hundreds, possibly thousands of other hardware and software tools at my disposal (been at this since the 80’s) and I don’t use your NI instruments often enough for the obscure design language to become intuitive. Please don’t read this feedback as hostility, because I’m a big fan of your work. I just wish the interfaces would trend a bit more towards convention in terms of visual language and labeling.
@SOUNDDUST3 ай бұрын
@@deastman2 Thanks again, and I am listening. Believe it or not, I actually try and make things as un-obscure as possible. The development of every instrument is a winding journey of discovery, and it's very easy to get carried away by the process. I try and build instruments that are also a journey of discovery for the user - I think that is what makes Sound Dust what it is - hopefully creative and useful - sometimes a little bit challenging : )
@deastman23 ай бұрын
@@SOUNDDUSTOh I understand completely! I’ve done software development, graphic design, UI/UX, and a million other related kinds of work for decades. I really don’t want to keep hammering on your work like this because I love everything you do. I also know that you put a lot of effort into fine tuning your interfaces. Undoubtedly they seem intuitive to you because you created them and you know exactly what every button does. I’m merely offering you my reaction as one individual end user.

So ... itʻs a world in a plugin. Only one query -- can the Hobbes sequencers/arpeggiators be set to, say, a 31-beat loop? This, of all chaotically minded plugins available on earth, would seem to be a natural feature .... LMK
